How do I find my current location?
I just started playing about 5 hours ago and I'm trying to figure out how do I locate what planet I'm on? How do I get that hexidecimal key to look myself on the map?

too many questions mixed up in there.
But be aware that maybe what will follow and the links provided MAY contain SPOILERS, so up to you to continue reading and to access the links, depending on how you feel about that.

Pure ingame gameplay

First to know what system and what planet (names) you are in, you simply hit [ ESC ] and go into discoveries.

To know where you are in the galaxy map (system then) you need to be in space and hit [ M ], it will center right away.

Exadecimal part and coordinates

Exadecimal may be needed later game, and maybe it's too early to really care about.

Besides that, I'm not the best with the hexadecimal stuff, I know how and what to use portals for, but besides that, it's beyond my will to try to understand further
Now this vid may help you out

You can get your coordinates by placing a signal booster

And finally the portals

Oh yeah early game, specially for a new player, things go fast and overwhelmed you surely must feel like that.

Now honnestly, unless you want to visit a specific area, don't bother too much with all that hexadecimal stuff and portal glyphs. All will come with a purpose when it's there.

Also, while glyphs are still relevant, they are not as important as they used to, due to the possibility of multiple bases, as far as solo gameplay goes. At least in my opinion.

Restarted a fresh permadeath, about 15h into it, so even for an older player but returning after a break, the first few hours are packed with a lot of things to do.

Enjoy the game

You've probably discovered this already but to locate your position precisely on any particular planet when you land, use your Analysis Scanner. It will display your coordinates longitude and latitude (x-y). I think those figures to a few decimal places, also show in your starship cockpit.
