Is S class the max upgrade you can get on ships and tools still?

I came across this while upgrading one of my multi-tools. After I upgraded my multi-tool to an S class, I noticed it still gives me the option to upgrade for 50k nanites. Now I did not try it because I save up enough to do two upgrades and I did not feel like losing 50k nanites to find out if it works or not. I believe this option should not be available to you if you already have an S class multi-tool. Right?

That's gotta be a bug, because no, there are no tiers for multitools higher than S class.

From what I can tell, S tier is the highest for ships. However, with Multitools, there are two types. Standard, and Royal. Each has tiers C through S. I believe Royal is considered a higher tier with better stat pools if I'm not mistaken though.

It doesn't do anything. Wish it was grayed out once you hit S class but nope. Just there to annoy us.
