No more free freighters?

I saved several freighters from attack but when I go to the captain the only thing that works is to take payment instead of ownership of the freighter. I guess now I have to buy the freighter outright.

I declined the first freighter, didn't get the choice to get number 2 for free, but when I bought it the price was 0.

I didn't take my first one and later on when I went freighter looking I got my first one for free.

I hate free Freighters. It's ridiculous. Who, even alien, just gives away a massive Freighter weighing tons and costing millions just away like that? They could have at least tried to think of a GOOD reason. I can think of lots.

Yea, I already have one, but I saved a few and they all cost millions of units.

The one you rescued is for free as long as you don't have one but if you find a better one it will cost you big time.

I mean, if a single pilot took down a whole squad of pirates and saved you, maybe you would be impressed and want their leadership? I duno. Don't think too hard about it friend.

Ok, that makes sense. So after the first time you save a freighter you have to pay.

The heard stories about rogue sentinals and biological experiments running amok and destroying entire ships. Those pirates were just the last straw. Besides, the owner gets to write it off on their taxes.

Your first freighter is free until you claim one (either free or buy one). If you buy one, you lose your free option. Also make sure you are not hitting the freighter during the fight or hitting friendly ships during the fight. That will end your option for a free claim of that freighter, but the next freighter battle you enter, you will once again be able to claim the freighter for free (again if you haven't already claimed a freighter). It can be confusing if you hit the freighter during the battle because you can still land on the freighter and offer to buy it, but you won't get the dialogue with the captain, nor the offer to claim his ship for free.

So the best bet here is to keep trying until you find an S tier as your first freighter and decline the others, right?

Yessir. Note: A class is good enough, but you might get lucky.

The odds of finding an S class freighter randomly is very small. If you want one look on YT. Players have posted videos with portal addresses for systems that have them how to game the RNG without spending hundreds of hours at it.

2% chance in 3-star system, 5% chance in pirate system. Although, the pirate system freighters are lean on the inventory space.
