no good way to get Radon (Atmosphere Harvesters are unreliable)
I've tried searching for Radon hotspots on Radioactive and Frozen planets, and so far they're all coming up as Oxygen hotspots, but none have been Radon.

When I go into the Catalogue & Guide and select "Locate Radon", it gives me a "helpful tip" that I should "Extract Radon with an Atmosphere Harvester. Radon can be harvested on Radioactive and Frozen planets."

So I placed an Atmosphere Harvester on a Radioactive planet, fed it some Carbon, and it started slowly collecting Radon. I logged off for a few hours. When I came back, both the Carbon and the Radon were gone completely.

Atmosphere Harvesters don't work, because they're buggy and usually leave me with less than I started with. I never like to use them, as they are completely unreliable!

Why can't we just have Radon hotspots on appropriate planets so we can gather Radon in a more reliable way?

Did you try clicking on Radon in your catalog?

You can find radon on frozen planets. It might take you 3 or 4 attempts to find a hotspot.

Have you tried the harvester on a freighter?

Not sure why you need radon, I've got 7000+ hours in game and never used for anything worthwhile.

You can still find Radon hotspots, they just not as common as Oxygen. If you can't find the radon, try another planet to get nitrogen or sulphrine. Once you have one of those plus an oxygen mine you can refine to any of the gases you need fairly quickly.

So there are Radon hotspots? I guess I've been getting unlucky so far. Thanks, I'll keep looking.

You need radon to make enriched carbon, but I usually get all the enriched carbon I need from frigate missions. It might not be enough if you're into crafting stasis devices (?) in a big way though.

I think you can also get radon from mutant plants, if you're lucky enough to find them...or maybe that's sulphurine? I can't remember...

You can also get radon by refining sulpherine into radon or nitrogen -> sulpherine -> radon. To refine it at a 1-1 ratio you will need to add oxygen to the process.

So the new Stellar Extractor Freighter base module extracts Radon when you're freighter is in Blue star systems, so it stand to reason that Radon will be more common in blue star systems. My A. Indium farm is on a Radioactive planet, so to test the theory I found the nearest hotspot, and it was Radon. While this could just be luck on my part, it does prove that such hotspots do exist. At least on Radioactive Planets in Blue Star Systems.

Mix Oxygen and Sufurine Gas you get Radon. I think.

You use Radon in making Stasis Boxes from scratch, and they are worth a lot of money

Yep, keep looking!

I've got some miners working on a radon hotspot as I speak. I attached enough storage that I can return to that base and get a full stack whenever I need it.

So yes, radon hotspots exist. They, and the other gas types, so seem to require patience to find now, but they are there.

yeah just keep trying, prospecting takes patience but you get mush faster at it with more practice

Have you tried the stellar extractor yet? if not, either try that or keep searching.

I have been searching more on my Activated Indium mining planet, which is obviously a blue star. So far nothing but Oxygen gas mines. :( I will keep trying.

Thanks for the other idea of using the freighter's Stellar Extractor, but I think it's going to be a VERY LONG TIME before I get my freighter upgraded to be allowed to go to blue stars. It takes a minimum of 4+4+8+12 (that's 28!) Salvaged Frigate Modules to upgrade the freighter's Warp Engine to enable summoning into blue systems. :( I've only found 3x Salvaged Frigate Modules so far.
