It is however critical to learn cooking if you’re interested in minmaxing organic frigates. Each organic frigate has 65 possible sets of perks, and you have to do cooking to access most of them, using raw ingredients will only get you around a third of the possible options I think.
Overall I think cooking as a system is mostly fine, it’s just that food itself isn’t useful. I think the more interesting solution would be that instead of removing cooking, adding something better to do with food, like long duration buffs, unique uses such as feeding things to pets, or even something like special cooking based quests from Cronus.
I started a new game with the intention of making my fortune with the BBQ unit.
It didn't take long to make my 1st Billion and although laborious, handing food into Cronus is a good way to earn Nanites early game.
So I made billions selling Tubby Custard Pies at 78k each and Tons of nanites with Stews.
As for the Wild Veges. They have to be foraged. I don't know why, (maybe a mechanic to encourage exploration) but it's just another means of getting what you need. Which is another Choice and I like choices.
