Vegetable growing
Am I missing the ability to grow the food like the tubers, peas, and beans etc? Or was that not implemented?

No only the plants you unlock at either the Farmer base NPC or Anomaly are plantable, not food.

Just seems if we have an Aggro station and we use the food to cook with, we should be able to also grow them. I would much rather eat the beans than a Fungal Mold salad.

You're right, a veggie garden makes sense. I read another topic today with some ideas for pet housing, I think the ability to build and maintain a farm would be a nice addition.

Yes something to hold the milkers, egg layers, berry producers, there is even a grease producer animal etc

actually most of the growable plants can be processed into food. but otherwise it is a very limited set of ingredients

Aside from the raw ingredients themselves, most of the wild crops have equivalents that can be used for cooking. Flour can be gotten from frost crystals, sugar from cactus, and many of the other wild vegetables have alternates available from refined vegetables. There are a few notable exceptions, like scorching sauce, which requires either fireberries for fire water or pulpy roots for root juice, but if your goal is just to complete the cooking catalog you need very few of the wild ingredients in total.

you can do lot of different foods from plants you can farm, those are not always so clear how to make but wiki has recipes listed.

You really don't need food and food products are not very good for selling for credits or nanites so it's a bit of a moot point. The cooking mechanic was a mistake and should never have been added.

I mean, I kinda had fun learning it in the process of completing them catalog. I agree that the final products are mostly not useful though. The only particularly useful foods for consumption are the ones that give a temp jetpack overload, since that lets you do that wherever you want, but even that is pretty niche.
It is however critical to learn cooking if you’re interested in minmaxing organic frigates. Each organic frigate has 65 possible sets of perks, and you have to do cooking to access most of them, using raw ingredients will only get you around a third of the possible options I think.
Overall I think cooking as a system is mostly fine, it’s just that food itself isn’t useful. I think the more interesting solution would be that instead of removing cooking, adding something better to do with food, like long duration buffs, unique uses such as feeding things to pets, or even something like special cooking based quests from Cronus.

We all like different things, nothing is wrong with that. I like to complete things, so yes I am working on the cooking recipes right now. All that being said, I just would like an area to set up my peas, beans etc as well as my egg, milk and grease producers. Be best if I could build this all on my Capitol ship. That would make the game more fun me. What I like is not what others would like, so making it an option not a mission quest line would not effect those who don't wish these items. Making the food items from goo from nasty stuff just reminds me too much of Soylent Green

cooking is decent income at start of the game as it does not need lot of bought recipes and most of stuff you need for those comes as side product by doing something else,

The one thing I've always liked about NMS, and the thing that keeps bringing me back to it is, "There is more than 1 way to get what you want/need."
I started a new game with the intention of making my fortune with the BBQ unit.
It didn't take long to make my 1st Billion and although laborious, handing food into Cronus is a good way to earn Nanites early game.
So I made billions selling Tubby Custard Pies at 78k each and Tons of nanites with Stews.
As for the Wild Veges. They have to be foraged. I don't know why, (maybe a mechanic to encourage exploration) but it's just another means of getting what you need. Which is another Choice and I like choices.:lunar2019grinningpig:
