Weird animals .. new since 4.0? later galaxies?
Anyone else noticed there are loads of new types of animals now since v4?
I'm seeing stuff every day that's completely different to anything I've seen before.
all kinds of odd stuff Ive not seen photos of anywhere. Or was it there alll along? (Admittedly I'm spending more time in the further galaxies these days).

[SPOILER ALERT!!! ... list of weird animals in this thread .....
- baby dragon
- bear thing with triple beaver tail
- lizard man
- flying flat head mammal
- flying horned turtle
- stripy spider
- 6 legged pig-skunk
- flying sack-headed stego-phant (??!!)]
- staring bee [??!!]

I haven't noticed anything drastically different. I did snag this guy but only because he had a weird body for a spider.

In addition, I didn't think there was any difference in any of the procedural generation with respect to "closer to the center" or "different galaxy". <- def could be wrong

Nope. There were no new planetary assets added in 4.0. what you describe sounds like things that have been around since 1.0.

Near death experiences can make the every day look brand new, are you ok?

I've seen a few slight design changes, but nothing that looks much different from before.

I would still like to see something huge, but slow. Like a giant tree-animal-thing (we get a lot of big trees), but a tree-animal-thing that actually moves slowly and is huge.

I have seen things like this for a long time, maybe since ver 1.0. they are fairly rare.

I have run into a couple critters that were new to me since 4.0. The one that stood out was a burrowing critter but it looked more like a black rock then anything else.

They may have tweaked the procedural generation on critters to be closer to the early days. At that time they got a lot of complaints about how goofy some of the critters looked, but I always enjoyed them.

Some of them were pretty strange looking.

I don't mind 'goofy' too much as long as they are rare (it's an alien universe so expect anything). However, I really don't want to see something like a fluffly pink rabbit with fish guns saying, "I'm a teapot" as that comes across as a joke, not something Nature could've created.

Anything doesn't mean anything.

And for the ones that do look a bit goofy, there should be much more real serious looking creatures. When I say "serious", I mean something you won't look at and and laugh at.

Yeah that is the basic issue for the game. You can only come up with so many believable characters if you are piecing them together out of various asset parts. And there is a big gap between how different players interpret real or serious looking. Some want it to be very similar to what we see in real life while others want oozing, vomit spitting monsters with 20 inch teeth and fangs.

It is pretty clear the Devs went with light-hearted and fun critters that are fanciful and do make you laugh on most occasions. I figure it is their game and I do get a kick out of what they come up with.

I think there a sub set of Ungulatis (cow). If you search for "no man's sky flying cow" you will see similar creatures.
