Helps to reload game before you enter each cave. Also sometimes underground creatures can end up on the surface.

Hear, hear! I recently had to skip a planet with 15/16 creatures discovered (that would've awarded me 4k nanites) because I just couldn't find that last bugger.

I guess it sometimes has to do with how many creatures there can be at one time around you. Because the surface was riddled with creatures, and maybe, therefore the cave creatures never spawned.
It would've been great if they maybe can make the surface creatures not spawn when you're underground, if that's the case, and that would've make it easier to find those elusive critters.

Bear in mind that some "underground" creatures aren't found in caves. The prairie dog/meerkat for example.

Best place to hang out looking for underground creatures is probably a cave entrance created by a PoI's flattened area. Those seem to work well for whatever reason, and the quasi-underground underground critters will also spawn there.

At least you know what you're looking for. In the past, you didn't get any hints. All you got was the number of fauna on the planet. There were spreadsheets where some tried to find patterns so that you could predict what type of fauna you were missing, but they were only so accurate.

We also walked to school in 10 feet of snow, uphill both ways, with no shoes and just string wrapped around our feet for socks, and we liked it! :-)

Well I certainly did walk a quarter mile uphill in the snow in the dark to my schoolbus back in the day. Don't know about you all. Builds character.

They don't make Gamers like they used to do, do they? I blame School Crossing places, parents, fast food, and friendly policemen. Oh, and rainbows and unicorns.

We heard your feedback. Underwater underground creatures that spawn only during dusk and dawn.

I no longer have this issue. I loaded a MOD that removes the underground creatures. The game is made less complete than before, but more satisfying as the search can be completed.

Underwater, rare, found in the north/south. Sometimes I can't even find an ocean to start looking for them in.

Give me underground any day!

I guess if you found them easily they wouldn't be rare now, would they?

Honestly had to force myself to stop looking for creature scans... waste way too much time on it. Sometimes I get the lucky chance of an "underground" appearing at ground level, or that simply the 'rares' for a planet end up feeling common. But every once in a while I sink hours into finding the last few...

Better ways to get nanites later.

most likely it is some 'worm' which can not even be scanned

It is not just 'Underground' creatures that are hard to find. That used to be a problem maybe in 2.0 when it was an actual bug but it's not anymore.

'Rare' creatures are of course, as the name suggests, rare and hard to find. So you won't find them easily most of the time. So regardless of bugs or developers hiding them they shouldn't be just sitting there right in front of your ship once you land.
Second, 'rare' creatures are designed to sometimes be in some specific areas, more than what it tells you in the info. 'Underground' can mean a lot of things. It doesn't always mean caves. It can even mean the valleys between mountains. You should also try thinking outside of the box.
Also, sometimes you have to travel further than a couple of KM to find some of the fauna because they aren't going to be found in certain parts of the world. While the data will tell you that certain ones can only be found in the 'North' or 'South', others seem, at least to me, to only pop up in certain sections or combinations of terrain types. Such as, for example, the sort of terrains where a campsite/structure seems to be next to an open cave. You know those places where you can usually find lots of albumen pearls just sitting outside? You can often find a lot of very hard to find "rare underground" creatures there as well.

There used to be some bugs related to finding all of the fauna on planets, but they finally patched them all out. So... All in all if you're having trouble finding what you're looking for the problem is most likely that you're probably just not looking in the right places.

^ That is a bug I'd also really like them to fix... but last I checked the giant worms don't actually count towards a planet's total. So you should still be able to complete the planet's fauna and get the nanite reward, unless they changed it recently.
