To stop this: Just bail and run, fly some time until you can pulse again. Pulse away. Jump to another system or fly into a Space station. Or summon the Anomaly if you're able to and land there. Or disable auto combat (auto target) in your settings, fly to a planet and land.
And don't trigger them again. Just be more careful in the future.

sentinels ships engage
a) you're on a planet get a sentinel alert status and you try to fly off in your ship before the alert is cleared
b) if you're in a regulated system and shoot at freighters
c) if you shot the space station (not sure if this happens in pirate controlled systems)
And triggering them sentinels is easier done then one thinks, all it takes is one stray bullet hitting an npc freighter or sentinels that show up to fight those pirates. Now if those npc ships that show up would deal at least damage to the pirates it wouldn't be to bad. But in their current state they are more a liability and a hinder then help.
I might have hit something while fighting the pirates I guess. It was in space. There was a ship / freighter near by.
Same problem I had in Fallout 4. Had several settlements and 90% of the time I was doing in the game was, defending them. Guess the same will happen in this game 2.
