Derelict freighters will offer them, too.
And Nexus missions will have them as rewards as well.
So you have multiple ways of getting them - which way would be the fastest one is something to argue about but interestingly enough many people consider shooting down freighter cargo pods (raiding ships) to be the fastest one.
Frigate expeditions 66-100% depending on mission difficulty (never gotten one yet)
Looting crashed freighters 5%
Nexus missions 5%
Derelicts 3%
Mission board jobs 1%
Destroying cargo pods on NPC freighters 1% (per pod I assume)
Destroying standalone pods accompanying freighters 1%
I won't even be bothering upgrading my freighter grinding these ways, just makes it feel like a F2P game.
1. Place a portable refinery inside your freighter (Haven't tested elsewhere, could work there as well)
2. Put the item(s) you want to duplicate inside.
3. Place a second portable refinery "inside" the first one so they clip into each other.
4. Enter inventory of the refinery and take out the item(s) again, then delete the portable refinery again (middle mouse).
(second portable refinery should still be there at this point)
5. Enter inventory of the other refinery and take out the item(s) again since they should have been in both now^^
You can delete that portable refinery as well now and start over again. You can use multiple refineries placed into each other too increase the effect but have enough inventory slots ;)
In case you don' t want to do it like that try pirating freighters. Only attack the cargo boxes of the big ships, leave alone the fregattes, ignore the "police" and just run when finished until you can jump away. You need to have good shields for that or reload the shields constantly.
I got three modules every few freighters but found it still to be taking too long.
Sry, I am old and I am not in it for the grind game. Just wanted to build my freighter :D
This is definitely the fastest method. The last tihing you want to do is to do a nexus mission. It makes you jump through hoops and lots of trouble just for 1 fricken module. Sometimes you can get 3-4 per run attacking pirate systems if you are lucky.
Then fly to next, I did all the new upgrades in roughly an hour of leisurely spaceship flying, just hopping pirate sector to pirate sector. Easy peasy.
The trick is just to aim at the cargo pods and to destroy those. No other targets on a freighter and especially no other ships.
And should you get some minor minus reputations, get some effigies for the race you've angered, just talk to one at a station or wherever you will find one and dump all those effigies at him to boost your reputation again.
don't shoot the small pods, you do lose reputation. Shoot the freighters in outlaws systems and you won't lose it
