is it worth starting an expedition as your main save?
So from what I have read, expeditions are their own enclosed thing, that when you beat, you can then convert that save into a general sandbox one.

if I am going to start a new sandbox save anyway, is it worth doing any of the expeditions instead of just starting a new save?

Only new save.

Generally no. Some gains, some losses. While occasionally you may get something like a better than average ship overall it's probably not worth it because the initial questline of a normal game (aka tutorial) is fairly good.

The last one would have been worth doing that with if and only if you'd wanted to play survival mode.

You have something like 15 save slots. Just start a normal game, play the expedition when it starts then decide after.

If you make the previous expedition save your main, what will you do with the next expedition? And the next after the next one?
Each save will have some good stuff that you might not want to lose, but where do you draw the line?

Let me make sure i understand, since i haven't been around long enough to do an expedition yet. You seem to be saying that to do an expedition you have to start a new game, and that anything you earn for the expedition stays with that games save? Whats the point of doing the expeditions if nothing that happens on them transfers over to your main game?

You can have more then one save. Chicken little says the saves are falling!
Depends on the expedition. Also depends on bugs/glitches.
Does it matter in the long run .... nope.

Some Expedition Milestone rewards do become available for any other saves, such as the Normandy, the Golden Vector fighter and the Leviathan. But only if you actually do the Expedition and claim the rewards.... Ordinarily, though, I always go back to a Main Save that was a conventional start.

Ok, so some of the stuff you do on expeditions can transfer over to your main game.

I can live with starting a new save and playing it for a week or however long the expedition takes if i can use the good rewards in my main game. I just didn't want to devote the time to a sideline save if that's the only place that stuff can be used.

You can do that. We never know what the set up for an Expedition will be so they could provide us with a nice S class ship, tool, and freighter right off the bat. Or they make us suffer mightily with exorbitant prices and crappy gear from the get go. Or just something in between.

If you are enjoying the expedition and don't mind getting some good stuff and rewards immediately or by the time you finish the expedition, it would be okay.

If you really like the challenging start and working your way up the ladder, it might feel too cheap to keep as a save. I am always in the latter camp and just toast those saves once the expedition is over.

You should start a normal save first, if only to get used to playing. The last Expedition was pretty harsh, although they're not all like that. It's good to know what you're doing before they throw you into the deep end.

If the Expedition gives you cool stuff that you want to keep, then keep using that save as your main. Looks like they finally gave us the means to convert that save to a normal one at will instead of waiting weeks for the event to be over.

If you like your other save better, then some of the Expedition rewards can be claimed from the Quicksilver vendor in the Anomaly on other saves. So it is worth it to do the Expeditions in addition to your main save.

if it is your first time through the game it might be good to just play normal because you need to learn the basic mechanics and stuff of the game - where to find stuff etc.
Starting an expedition will kind of just throw you in the deep end.

If you use an Expedition save as your main game, you get a massive jumpstart in terms of ships, gear, money, nanites and upgrades. The Expeditions basically compress game progress into a shorter time frame by giving you all kinds of goodies you have to work much harder for in the normal game. Trouble is with each expedition you get another great save when it's over and have to decide which one to use.

Wait. So stuff I earn in an expedition can’t be used in my main game? That sounds suspect

They are different saves. Nothing crosses saves including bases.

There are usually a few cross save rewards earned on an Expedition. You can pick those particular items up from the QS dealer in the anomaly once you earn them. Outside of a couple items offered in past expeditions, usually it is pretty much cosmetic stuff you get.

Some of the "Rewards" can be claimed on other saves. Stuff you pick up along the way stay on that save only.

Credits, ships, bases, upgrades, all that is save exclusive. But there are milestone rewards (usually cosmetics) which can be claimed in any save.
