I explore a lot, it does not take away my ability to go explore if I want to anyway. If I want to get all those bonus nanites for wildlife, then I will be wandering planets for awhile with or without the scanner.
Also it's just simply a pain in the ass to fly around the gigantic mother of all planets next to the space station just to see all the planets on occasion.
yes, of course. But that is not the point. If you take away the need to do something to get a reward, it takes away a core feature of the game. It may be hard to explain to everyone, but for me this does not feel right. Well, nothing we can do about it anyway, since everyone is praising that feature and i doubt that HG will even notice that a few people have a different opinion on that.
Yes, i would agree, that pulse driving from planet to planet can become a bit annoying at times. So the idea of the freighter being able to pulse drive into orbit quickly would solve that issue, but you still have to land on a planet to claim your discovery. It's hard to explain, i know, but for me the easy way to just discover all systems at once without putting any effort in it, take something away from the game. I may be the only one, who feels that way, so that's okay of course.
I also agree that, in regards to a more co-existing universe, it would be better to not couple the room to claiming the planets as well. Having planets in a system that were discovered by various people breathes some life into the universe. (Someone could argue that exactly this would work against the lore and the initial goal, but since multiplayer is and was getting more love over time, this one argument could be dismissed, too.)
Scanning all planets with one click - yes.
Claiming planets just when you actually landed on a planet - yes.
This would be my preferred way, too.
It's a massive improvement that completely adds to the game. I still use my ship to go and explore everything. It's the person that sets the rules, not the game. This was simply an incredible new addition that opened up new reasons to use my freighter for something besides a 'tug boat' ... tug it along ... call it in whenever I need resources or a quick getaway. That's all it was really good for before. Sure, dress it up, get some stuff from missions, but honestly - did you use it for much else? lol
No, this is an optional quality of life improvement. Some people may use it, some may not. It is not a requirement. Where it helps me, is that I can sweep a system when I enter it and focus only on the planets I care about instead of scanning each individually and landing on them.
It doesn't take away a core feature of the game, just because you don't need to land on a planet anymore doesn't mean it limits exploration.
as others have said its optional
and the galaxies are huge so still dont get what the problem is
LOL. Apparently great minds think alike. Didn't see your post until just after I posted mine.
Even if it was just reading the comments players have left on any particular planet using the communications stations. Scrolling through them might be fun and amusing 'red herrings' that may give some clues about a planet if it is dangerous or not. I wouldn't want to idle too long at an information panel. But there might even be actual scrolling info data about a planet from procedural selection of random info we might watch. There are all sorts of things that might be done finding creative ways to display galacitc information. Even if it's holiday adverts and pictures of player bases to vacation on.... Blade Runner style on a tall building sort of thing ;D
