Player owned space stations?
more of a thought but does give the players the ability to actually own a space station/ solar system sound like a fun idea? I would imagine it being a costly effort. While I can see it being possible for a early game player to get I imagine it being a later game thing.
edit. I also imagine most obtainable systems would be already empty systems aka abandoned systems

What would this do that planet bases, freighter bases, or settlements don't do?

Does an exploration game really need another mechanic tied to a fixed location?
Take over abandoned station and terraform a planet in that system. I would love that, but don't expect HG to implement it.
Sure it would be about the same as having a base on a planet but they could make stations unique and allow you to setup shops on your station and sell things to other players. Maybe you could also have an area to display and sell your ships to other players also.
I kind of saw it as a management thing letting you "build" buildings on the planet and make passive resources while you explore. part of why I was saying later game when players are likely burning out on exploring and want to do stuff like build massives bases the station's passive resource production and such gives them a lot more to work with and hey know you can have a system all to your

unless they add a lot more features to stations, there's not much of worth in them that you can't do with a freighter base.

fair point but also more stuff for space stations would likely be added if the idea was done considering the devs

System/planet modification is the real reason I see for space station ownership. It eibe a great Kate game money sink, but feasibility is very questionable.

mind you, I'm not totally against it, I just think at that point it's more about what they add to stations than owning stations. Most that want to own stations envision Death Star like scenarios which is a pipe dream.

I think you gave me this idea, LB :steamhappy: Feasibility as in how to work this concept in with the current seed generation.. I agree it doesn't look like HG would want to tackle that.
Hell, I'd be even more of a fan of an overhaul to the reputation system where things like prices and value fluctuate with your reputation for the race that controls the system, changes to conflict system so that you're even more likely to be attacked by NPC ships of the controlling race if your rep is negative or more likely to help you in a fight if you're high enough in rep. Maybe tie space station ownership to rep where you can't "buy" station ownership until your rep with said controlling race is high enough. As of right now, rep means little to nothing meaningful. That's only slightly tied to stations though, so pardon the slight off topic

hunh? i thought we were talking about taking over abandoned space stations in abandoned systems... there's no controlling race in those systems... i don't know that i'd want to take over an established station... it has been a long day, though, and i might be missing something... current brain mush isn't working to well...

hunh? i thought we were talking about taking over abandoned space stations in abandoned systems... there's no controlling race in those systems... i don't know that i'd want to take over an established station... it has been a long day, though, and i might be missing something... current brain mush isn't working to well...
yeah my whole getting a station idea focused mostly on "dead" systems with out a active station that a player repairs or buys or something
