Minor (but annoying) crashed freighter problems
I'm hoping that one day, these will be radically spiced up, but in the meantime, I've hit a couple of niggling issues since Waypoint came out (I've reported these via Zendesk, but I'm curious to know if others are experiencing them too).

When I find a crashed freighter (on a planet's surface) and start exploring I get two entries in my mission log (with 2 different freighter names), which is trivial but annoying. Slightly more annoying is that most of the cargo pods you dig up now release their contents before you have actually repaired them; the game then registers them as uncleared, so the mission doesn't complete even after you've got all the loot.

It's easily fixed -- you just grab the loot, then "abandon" both duplicate missions (delete them from your log), but I wish it just worked properly. Are others finding this too?

In the long run, I hope crashed freighters get a bit of love in a future update. Not long ago I found an aggressive predator had spawned within the main body of the freighter and started stalking me. It was hard to get a clear shot because of all the wreckage. Made me think it would be great if (a) the freighter designs, layouts, number of cargo boxes and their location were all randomised; (b) you could sometimes find something nasty in the box, which popped out and attacked you; and (c) repairing the pods was a bit more varied and interesting (e.g. sometimes requiring exotic or rare materials like acid or lubricant, but with a much higher chance of getting either really rare loot -- like 5 salvaged frigate modules in one box -- and perhaps a much higher chance of something really nasty popping out to attack you.

I too have noticed the double missions for crashed freighters. However unless the terrain prohibits me from accessing the cargo pod, both missions always clear.

RE: "release their contents before you have actually repaired them"

Since 4.0 there is nothing to repair on the cargo pods, simply remove the material from both locations and the pod is unlocked and contents deposited into your inventory.

I've completed well over 30 crashed freighters and only ran into the terrain issue on one. I play on max difficulty so perhaps there is a difference with easier game modes.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. For most of the pods, if you click on the goop/rusted metal the pod just releases its loot into your inventory, without clearing the goop. So the mission progress pop up shows that you haven't cleared that pod. This happens with other containers too sometimes, but it's almost all the pods on almost all the crashed freighters for me now. (FYI, I always start with the one outside that's buried closest to the landing beacon. That pod always needs clearing before it opens, but most of the others just pop open when I touch them.)

Ahhhh sorry… and yes indeed that would be annoying. Perhaps your PC is too fast 😉 Mine is fairly old and never had those pods open like that.

Oh and increase my occurrence by one. Just started a new PD save & spied a crashed freighter while fixing my ship. Fly to it and the furthest one away from center was buried in an unminable mountain side.

You don't need to abandon the mission on this glitch. You can go to the next pod (to allow the radiation to dissipate), then go back to the glitch pod and remove the goop. It will then count that pod as fixed in the log and continue until you get the normal completion notice.

Haven't been playing this game long, but I have been having this problem. I'll try what Papa says, but I wanted to add, I've just abandoned two such missions that were reporting 0/0 pods to clear after having the loot pop into my inventory before clearing the goop then interacting again immediately and clearing the goop (not certain, but sometimes seeming to get more loot).

@KOXNOT, where the ones reporting 0/0 underwater crashed freighters? I have that same issue in my game, and so far it occurs at ALL underwater crashed freighters (only done 2 so far...).

It is indeed a super annoying but uneventful bug. I mean there are no consequences from abandoning those missions... you don't loose faction standing or anything... just annoying.

Those affected should be submitting a bug report here: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

Has anyone else noticed that you don't need to dig up the pods? I can just walk as close to it as I can and I get the prompt to open it, even on those where you have to destroy some metal first. Same thing for those buried tech thingies.
