The only place where you meet other players is the anomaly. It a place where you get some blueprints and missions, and you can see other players there. But there is not much interaction. When you accept a mission there, you can do it with other players or alone.
When you deactivate multiplayer, you are just alone in the anomaly without other players.
Multiplayer is 100% optional in this game and more like a side feature.
But on the other hand, the game is about repetitive content. There is a main quests, but thats over pretty soon. After that, the game gets very repetitive in all aspects.
Maybe watch some youtube reviews to see what the gameplay is like, if you are not sure.
I play solo all the time. However if you don't disconnect or switch off from the net the game will literally volunteer you online without you knowing.
I once had a game and ended up on this big space thing (I guess that was the anomoly). I thought I was still 'offline'.
It wasn't until an 'NPC' ran up to me and around me that I began to suspect I was online, cos he acted very 'sentient', if you know what I mean, like he was really aware of me.
Then I saw other 'npcs' that were runninga round really fast and taking boost shortcuts everywhere totally unlike normal npcs and I realised I was Online.
If they run really fast and boost everywhere they're not an NPC.
You should be able to turn it off but you can't, you have to totally disconnect from the net.
This.
I've always played with MP and PvP off, while connected to the network and have never seen anyone in over 2000 hours of play.
in the Network tab, turn off Multiplayer and the anomaly will be devoid of players... you'll only see NPCs then...
Ah, didn't know that. I don't even remember seing a network tab and I usually always go into the options. I will go in there and search properly.
I guess I'm wrong.
Thanks for correcting me.
The one time I forgot to do that I got hailed by a person in a different language, then a starship tried to blast me out as I exited the atmosphere. I returned fire and chased him away (even with my puny starship), but I don't want that interaction. Lesson learned.
Yea, the craziness of the internet is not fun anymore in my view. I mean I don't mind when you get decent guys, but these days most are all about 'griefing' (causing you hassle for a laugh). I used to play Left4Dead a lot and it was good- until the griefing guys came along. Some of them would be really deceptive, acting like they were decent until nearly the end of the game (like 2 or more hours), then they flipped and ruined everything for everyone, then laugh down the mike, in their tinny, girly voice, and leave.
And it started happening in other MP games too.
After the umpteenth time of this I'd had enough. My time is precious enough as it is to be wasted by idiots.
That was the final nail in the coffin of MP for me.
At least the AI NPC sticks to its roles as best it can.
