end game is boring AF
so I have S class everything and multiple farms for units , everythings opened up from visiting the back room of the anomaly. I have a sweet settlement on a paradise planet with deep water and no sentinels. I play permadeath , no mods, no saves incase i die. I actually enjoy starting over from nothing when I die which happens, not to frequently any more cause I'm gettin Gud but I find the end game extremely boring. Something is missing, don't know what is missing but it's boring IMHO. Perhaps future updates may add something cool for end gamers. Maybe females and poles instead of dancing Vkeen warriors looking at me lustily lol in my settlement bar???

I can't find the article, but I remember Sean Murray saying that he thought that most people would stop playing the game once they would reach the centre of the galaxy.

I feel like getting bored is normal. 😅
I think the main story *and* gameplay element of the game is the procedural generation. When you think about the fact that all those planets are procedurally generated, it's impressive, no matter what some people think of about the variety.
I watched "A Trip to Infinity" on Netflix recently. It's a documentary about the concept of "infinity" and explanations from different scientific disciplines. I also watched "The Edge of All We Know" which is about black holes... Both documentaries made me appreciate NMS even more!

What is this "end game" you speak of?

It is okay to be done with a game. Just move on for a bit if you are bored. The latest update added a lot of options to the game and brought me back to playing again. I guess I don't expect the Devs to worry about my "feel bored" preferences after 4100+ hours. I probably got my money's worth at some point while I was playing.

I think the game is fantastic, can't wait for new updates and or additions, i love the procedural aspect of the game, visually the game is stunning and set on hard its challenging. But for me something is missing?? As an example I also play GW2 and have a very strong character and have done most things in game so for me when I play gw2 I don't really roam around anymore developing my character I play pvp and wvw. Not saying pvp is need here in nms but other than exploring endless planets and gathering stuff there doesnt seem to be anything left to do? biulding bases is fun but.......ive even deleted and started over, maybe a break is required?

I find starting a new save helps. Bored? Already have everything? Here, try having nothing at all! :)

I suppose I could play another game, but... I like playing this one!

Well, now that you have S-class modules up and running, it's time to go even higher and grab some of those X-class modules. :steamhappy:

When you've done all the stuff, seen all the stuff and are the undisputed master of your domain, it's a good time to try a new game or wait for the next campaign. I think most of the actual game is rooted in the struggle to survive and grow. Once that struggle is gone so is a large part of the motivation to keep playing. Building an empire, even an empire of 1, is largely the end game since you don't have an antagonist to strive against. What point is developing trade routes, supply chains or experienced fleets when you have nothing to pit them against? I think there is a virtually unlimited canvas available to expand into a real end game, but it's going to require some strong planning and development. I'd love to see it, though.

Getting all the stuff is not the "end game". Stuff is a means to an end not the end. The "end game" is discovering everything that can be discover, which is never ending.

To fully appreciate this game you can't just like at a creature and think "its just X with a different head". Yu have to look at things like a exo biologist and see each species as its own thing. If you can't do that then you'll only get 100 hours or less out of this game.

No! You have to go the other way. Upgrades make the game too easy. I suggest putting all those upgrades in storage, go by some C-class junker ship and multitool, and see what you can do with just that.

Head out to a harsh galaxy and try building a base on an extreme planet with extreme storms with no upgraded protections.

Or go next-level and build a base over an active volcano:

I just visited that place last night, not remembering that it was on a volcano, and it's a bit disconcerting teleporting in onto a floor of glass that's above an actively erupting volcano - in permadeath! :-)

Much of the latest update undid some serious stupidity from the previous several updates, but...then after giving us some nice things, they hit us in the head with Lucille with inventory gimping.

The latest update kind of finished off the suffering horse for me. I'll probably straggle back and give the next expedition a peek, unless its like the suicide loop expedition, in which case i'll give it a hard pass and wait for the next.

I dont think youre at the end game yet. The end game after the scripted linear game is a more fluid self-driven game where you can master everything and do whatever you enjoy in an open world. Looking back, the scripted story and progression is like a tutorial to teach you about the open world. There's even a ton to discover and try beyond that 'tutorial'.

The open world is kind of beyond what a traditional 'game' is. You set your own goals and the pleasure comes from meeting them or just satisfying your curiosity, or hanging out, or whatever.

If the open world phase doesnt light your fire then maybe you dont have the exploring itch or maybe just prefer something more combat driven? Or maybe you could just take some time to set some goals? It's definitely a difficult shift for some because its not like 'gaming' at all (which is also why many people like it I think).

question. I noticed you are using the cement building pieces and I recall those don't actually have glass on the windows but are just hollow. Do they still protect from weather?

Yes. The game is pretty forgiving of what it considers "inside". Two walls and a roof will protect you from the environment.

Edit: Yup. Wood floors. this is from when I was building it and had not built the landing pad yet.

I think the floors might be wood (with glass), which might not be the best long-term choice to build over a volcano! :-)
