Ship stats S class vs upgraded
I am attempting to get an S class ship from a station they are supposed to be able to be found in, all I ever see are A class. What is the difference in stats between a ship that is upgraded and one that was an S class to start with?

I don't think there is a difference or the difference is meaningless. Many times I'll buy the A class and spend 50k nanites to upgrade it because its not worth hours and hours waiting around for the S version.

Thank you for the info. I have spent a couple of hours on 2 different platforms and no S so I will upgrade an A.

Ships upgraded to S will always have fixed stats derived from the ship's seed. If you find the same A class ship its starting stats will vary, but still upgrade to the same numbers.

Randomly spawned S class have different stats every time. This definitely applies to the main stat, I'm not 100% sure about the others (I assume it applies to any stats that are eligible for a 'class bonus.')

The random/wild stats can be higher or lower than the upgraded version.
Yes the above. A sample is a recent fighter that I was interested in in a 3 star system. While waiting for an S class u decided to take a C and see it's stats at S. Then compare it to wild S.

Upgrade S fighter-
Damage 249.1
Shield 187.4

Wild S fighter -
Damage 251.3
Shield. 185.2

I didn't list the hyper and navigation cuz they're always the same. The Upgrade ships will always be the same whether from C to s or A to s. The wild will have random stats but honestly they're so small it doesn't matter unless you really want to spend time searching.

Yep this too ^^

Personally I was only interested and investigated because of explorers and the hyperdrive stat; that can make a significant difference to the (eventually fully-upgraded) range. All other stats are relatively meaningless; there won't be much difference to note once they're boosted with upgrade modules.

The easiest way to see for yourself is with 'first wave' exotics; you can quickly see the same ship spawn repeatedly with different stats rolled each time.

Thank you, going for the upgrade as I have wasted enough time searching for the elusive S.
My RNG luck is terrible so it could take days to get the S or I might never see one and the difference is not enough to make a difference in my play style.

Tbh, by peeking through the game datas, the ship has "range" and means of error/fluctuative. But when we talk about getting upgrade from a or wild s, it still take from the same pool. It maybe have predefined seed to work on, but neither has edge over others according to what I see. Either you go for the lowest effort, the stats, or even the look, any of them shouldn't matter much.
