Why even build a fusion ignitor farm?
A couple years ago, I spent a long time working on a farm that makes fusion ignitors every day. This took a lot of effort, but it seems like I could've saved so much time by just building an activated indium farm thats far easier and makes more money. So why should people ever make fusion ignitors instead?

Some people actually like to have to put some effort into making money.

Industrial mining as made all other income streams obsolete. The only reason to farm is if you want to.

A fusion ignitor farm is on my "todo" list. After experiencing the joy of survival mode of E7 and limited inventory, I realized how painful the Act. Ind. approach can be since it relies on massive inventory amounts to be the most efficient.

Mineral extractors made fusion igniter farms obsolete in the same way that they made AMUs obsolete. For a real world parallel you can still drive your model T but a Prius is going to be superior.

I looked into fusion igniters once. Everyone else was doing stasis devices, so I figured I'd be the oddball who did these. The problem is that they require more steps than stasis device farms did. So, I went with stasis devices.

I keep my farm for the reason explained earlier: I want to feel like I actually did some "work" for this money. I could easily just do activated indium with a built-in base trade terminal. It just doesn't feel all that different to me than using a save editor. A 64 stasis device farm on a 16 hr cycle still requires about an hour's worth of actual work every 16 hours to convert the harvest into devices. That seems like a reasonable way to make a fortune to me.

You know what the fun thing is?
You could have saved even more time by not building anything at all.
That's the joy of sandbox: There is no "perfect way" or a required path to do things. Don't do things if you're assuming they are necessary. Just do things that are fun to you and you want to do.
I don't build any farms, because for me that's the most boring way to play this game. And noone is in need to build those things.

When you have a frigate of 25 and send all out each day. Then save what they bring in for a while. Plus saved farm goods. You soon end up with enough raw materials to make 20 each of both top of the line items. By then, you needed to empty your storage any how.

I only run 2 frigate missions per day and have positive cash flow from that.

That's the problem with everything about NMS: why do anything? The resource loop is completely optional even in permadeath. You do things because you want to do things, since there is no reason for most of the content.

We've been asking for a new gamemode which upgrade this situation for a while now.

That's fine too. But what do you bring in each day from that? I bring in approximately 20 mil units a day just from my frigates.

Exactly this is the point of a sandbox game.
That's the strong point of this game.
Its whole purpose.

About 2-3 mil per day. I use a Act. Ind. farm at the start to get 200mil to be ready for that first S-class freighter. Then never need to farm again.

Yeah, I can relate. There comes a time when you want be a minimalist too.

For me and a good portion of permadeath players, yes, it is a problem, because we want to solve "puzzles", not just do cosmetic things. And that's why we are asking for a "gamemode" with a better loop, not to change the game.
