Runaway Mould
I have been to blue star systems and planets with fungal Mould along with high sentinel activity and still cannot manage to find a curious deposit/runaway mould anywhere.

Can someone please please please help me out here? Thanks a bunch.

Runaway mould isn't connected to fungal mould in any shape or form - it can be found on any planet but not all planets have it on them.
Which means: You have to find it. By exploring. Sacrifice some Gek to rng-esus for inreasing your chances.

I find it on 1 - 2 new planets a day without even trying. I have 15 mold bases now with up to 15 huge balls per site.

The type of planet and system doesn't really matter. I visit all system types and planets and find them all over the place.

If you find stuff that looks like mold on a planet like gravitino balls and spherical rocks there's a good chance it has mold. You'll see it on your analysis visor unless you're using a HUD mod.

Or you can go to someone elses farm

Let me share my findings as I have found lots of Mould.
1) I have had better luck in galaxies that have a "PF" after it, but like another poster said, it can be on ANY planet. I would still go for planets with the "P" in it.

2) if a planet has floating crystals, there is a chance it will have Runaway Mould or another item that shows up with the 3 yellow stars (venom sacs, metal fingers)

3) If a planet on a galaxy has the above, chances are at least one planet will have runaway mould
Example: I found a galaxy where one planet had metal fingers, another had the venom sacs, another had metal fingers and the last planet I tried in the galaxy had run away mould

4) I have tons of planets with runaway mould, even a nanite far on a 3star planet with a first wave exotic ship spawn in the space station (look up my name in Youtube if you want, I only have ONE NMS video), both planets in that system have mould

5) good luck! May the mould be with you!

Ah crap! I just deep fried the last Gek I had on hand. Now I'm gonna have go catch some more. I really hate that. They're slippery little devils and they bite!

Best way to find curious deposits is to go to a lush world and fly 20u, looking for pile of yellow balls, some biomes contrast to the deposit making them easier to see. I have found them whenever i look for them, my farm has 23 curious deposits.
It's luck. If you scan regularly on planets eventually you'll get something. I've recently (500hrs+) found a few in 3 planets and the biggest have 4 patches within 60u diameter radius. Honestly I was never looking for them so I may have come across them early in game too.

Also I earned most of my nanites from just looting everything so moulds are meh at my stage.

In short: curious deposits spawn are not tied to biomes or star types. It's all about luck and willing to spend lots of time to search for them. I know one planet with curious deposits if you interested. And small advice: if you find curious deposits spawn - DO NOT touch anything around them. Not ferrite stones nor ground around them. Cause it can mess up spawn and you'll need to look for another one.

Kinda funny that my starting planet has them

yep, explore and find them. build an outpost nearby, but not right next to, teleport back anytime you want. there used to be some truly hard things to find in the game like Murrine and Omegon. in comparison, runaway mold is pretty common.

Wow so much info, will try these methods and see what happens. In the meantime are there better ways to farm nanites other than the mould way?

That stuff comes from the weird rolly fungus balls that show up as gold 3-star items on the scanner. Or you make your own from the purple goo, that is made from the dark green goo, which is made from the light green goo.

Usually if I find a good rolly-fungus site, I build a base around it, and I take the door with me when I leave.

tainted metal from derelicts.

doing missions could be argued to be a better way.
