No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky

Do y'all own different starships that you use for different things? Or do you use one ship for everything?
I just bought a kick-ass new starship with (relatively) loads of storage space compared to my previous ships. However, I boosted my previous ship (which I still own) with many upgrades, so it has better damage and shield strength, and especially a much higher hyperdrive range.

I'm thinking to just keep that one loaded up with warp cells, while I use the new one to grind for materials. I don't have a freighter yet.

How do you go about stuff?

I can't use the save editor, but I use something better imo..

In the beginning the guy made it just for backing up companions, but it's gone so far beyond that now.. You can backup and restore almost everything now..

Companions, ships, frigates, freighters, bases and more.... It's not a mod it's an app/programe he wrote himself..

I use the Golden Fighter mostly but I have one of each type > Fighter > Hauler > Explorer > Solar > Living Ship > Shuttle :cuphead:
Golden Vector is my Daily Driver. I have a Solar, Living Ship, White Squid, and and Explorer I use exclusively for Galaxy travel. Working on my first Exotic.
i tend to have 1 of each type to spread my upgrades a bit out, instead of filling 1 ship with everything. i do like the looks of many different ships, so it's hard to limit myself to only a few.

On my current save, i mainly use a fighter that i like the slim design of, which has mostly most combat upgrades in, a hauler filled with common materials so that i can easily set up a base (can just summon it to land where i am) and an explorer mainly used for jumping solar systems, as it has the longest reach.

i currently have several other slots filled with expedition reward ships, to use as extra storage, since i'm still hunting for a freighter
I use my explorer to explore, my fighter to fight and my shuttle to shut. Simple actually
I refuse to upgrade inventory slots in any ship but haulers, so I use a hauler when moving things around.
For most other things I use my B class fighter.

I don't want to use a save editor cuz it's too powerful and too tempting to just get everything in the game and will likely spoil the game for me. However, NMS Companion has extended my gameplay because I can finally focus on collecting ships, faunas, etc instead of worrying about which ones to keep.

That's true, it gives you a lot more freedom. In the beginning it was called "NMS Companions", as it was only for backing up and restoring companions, but after he added ships and multi-tools it became "NMS Collections".

Since then he has added so much more. Before this app when we only had 6 ships max, I always used the same 6 ships on my saves, if I could find them again, but now I have a big collection and use whatever I want when I want. It's a great programme...
I use a shuttle class A, a yellow thing, vaguely x wing, upgraded it to max and used it for everything up to this point. I had a class C at the start but so far haven't used any other starships.
The reason for ideally having at least two ships is that it is possible to get a ship stuck in scenery/underground whatever. It's rare, but it can happen. And you autosave on exiting the ship.

Normally you can walk/tunnel yourself out, find a clear spot and summon your ship. That won't work if it has empty launch thrusters.

So - in that very rare eventuality, get yourself out, summon your backup ship and you are golden.

There are other ways out but they are a LOT more painful. Like reload a manual save where you weren't wedged in a mountain. Buy a ship from a grounded smuggler, create a base +base teleporter, TP to a station, buy a ship, summon the Anomaly swap ships there. All very annoying in comparison.
I just use one ship. I guess early game it might make sense to pick up a good fighter and go crazy on the offensive and defensive addons for it. I have never done that because it seems like the pirates/sentinel ships don't really offer a challenge even when I am in the starter ship (Radiant Pillar).

Once you have a ship that is S class 48/21 you can have it all in one ship. No need for specialized ships.
Late game I see no reason not to shuffle between ships as needed. Most of them have unique niches. Though I rarely have a need for Fighter, Exotic, or Shuttle. Still trying to figure out the point of Solar too.
I own multiple Starships but mainly just use a Solar while exploring (as it's sails refill all fuel automatically, so less farming needed) You can have a dedicated ship for Warping to new systems though or just use your Capital Ship and you can use a Junker when going through black holes to avoid having to repair too much.

It's funny that inventory space is the main reason different ships costs different amounts of units when inventory space doesn't really matter once you have all the storage on the Capital Ship, can just use Explorers, Solars or Fighters constantly as you can just teleport anything ya need to straight to your capital ship and all the storage containers.

While the extra inventory space is nice, it's no longer necessary with the new capital ship storage. Definitely not worth driving around in the dumptrucks that are Haulers.

Let's see. In my main save, I have:

Golden Vector - It's handy to have a fighter around.
2 squid exotics - Kept around after finding them due to their rarity.
2 royal exotics - I like the look of the royal & they handle well.
1 solar - The first solar I found after the Outlaws update. I may get rid of it for a better looking one at some point.
1 living ship - Got it to try out, didn't care for it, went back to it after the most recent update to see how things have improved. I like it better now & will work on upgrading further, but it's not likely to become my main starship.

I keep the remaining two starship slots open for salvage, but I'm toying with the idea of getting a hauler if I ever see one I like the look of.

Of these, I mainly use the royals, but I may switch to the solar if I'm pulsing around exploring a system.
