1) Wait 3 hours, do 5 jumps
2) You get normal freighter, talk to captan and decline it
3) Do 5 more jumps
4) You will get mission to help settlement (ignore it or not up to you)
5) Wait another 3 hours, do 5 jumps
6) No you will get your Capital freighter
No, they only count hyperwarps, teleportations don't count.
Spawned freighters in system has pirates spawn on it. Every 15-30 depending on the pirate activity freighter can send out a distress call. However these will not include a Capital Class because they do not spawn except by jumps.
On extremely rare occasions exiting the anomaly can trigger freighter attacks as if you just jumped into the system. I have only had it happen a handful of times.
I just had an epiphany, now that you walk outside your freighter you may be able to skip the freighter battles to find out the class (if you are save scumming.) Walk outside and scan the freighter? I will have to give that a shot.
You also get wanted messages now and then just flying around. That's how I bagged my last couple of pirates for the expedition.
Edit; Had really hoped they would add a way to upgrade your freighters on this update but sadly no.
Each system in the game has two spawns of freighters. (We're only talking rescue mission spawns, all sorts of stuff can already be there or warp in). The first of these spawns is called the system freighter. These can be like the blade freighters, the one with all the barrels, etc. The second type of spawn is called a Capital freighter. These are the big boys. They come in only two models. You've got the Imperial Star Destroyer model, and the Sentinel Dreadnought model. Most of the time, we're after these Capital freighters when we ship hunt, because they have the most slots unlocked. Like starships, freighters come in hidden "Tiers". A Tier 1 star destroyer type is called a Venator, it's got very few cargo pods on the sides. The Tier 3 is called a Resurgent class. My Resurgent class blots out the sun. It will take you awhile to fly around this ship. The most common comment I see when I summon it in is: "Holy fudge... that thing is big!"
Now, the two spawns switch off. If you got a system freighter last rescue mission, you'll get a capital freighter on the next rescue mission. If you decline to take the freighter, you have an option to ask for a reward instead. Always do this if you don't want the freighter. You will get some materials, usually gold, and a Cargo Bulkhead. Cargo Bulkheads are used for expanding freighters, they're way more valuable than the gold you just got.
When you freighter hunt, you're trying to make sure that your next spawn is a capital freighter, and that it spawns in the system that you want. If you use the portal glyphs from the coordinate exchange, this is the scenario you're trying to set up. To do this, you ideally want to get to a portal ASAP in a gaming session. Maybe log out next to one the night before. The idea is that you portal to the system with the freighter you want, then you jump to a nearby system. You don't want the freighter from that system to spawn a rescue mission, we're just setting up a teleport path so that all of our warping is INTO the system with the freighter we want. So, I'm sort of speed running the portal to warp time to ensure I don't accidentally trip that other system's spawn. I warp to the desired system in my ship, and if the capital freighter I want doesn't spawn, I use the space station teleport to visit that nearby system and repeat. Important thing to remember here is that all of my teleports are one way, and all of my hyperspace warps are the opposite way.
Maybe it was a buggy expedition save, but my last freighter hunting experience did not exactly follow the 3 hours, 5 warps, system freighter rescue, five warps, settlement, 3 more hours, five warps, capital. Mine was more random. But because I was setting up the runs the way I did, I did get the capital spawn I actually wanted for a freighter.
Okay, let's assume that you just warped into a system and the mission has triggered. In front of you is the Capital freighter that you definitely want. Mission accomplished, right? Well, is it going to be in the class you want? I mean, you just did a lot of work, wouldn't you like that freighter to be an S-class as well as massive? To do that, don't fight the pirates just yet. Instead, motor on over to the space station and land. As you get out of your ship, you just created an autosave. This autosave is how we get that S-class. We're gonna go fight those pirates, being very careful not to accidentally shoot our new freighter in the process. After we get the message from the captain to come aboard, (always wait for this and answer it so you don't risk bugs), we're going to land on the freighter. Now, as soon as you step out of the ship you should notice that it doesn't make an autosave. You're still in a mission, and it hasn't saved your progress yet. Before you do anything else, pop your analysis visor on and look at the hangar floor. You should see the freighter's class displayed. If it isn't what you want, just reload that autosave on the station. As you leave, you'll notice that the pirates are back, attacking the freighter you want. Repeat until it's S class. It'll take awhile, but think of it as free starship combat training. Putting in your hours in the simulator so you can get that Ace rating later.
There ya go, best advice I can come up with. Hope it helps you out.
