There may still be some individual object light sources that cause various effects, but there are some mods that try to remove those, if you find ones that bother you.
Since NMS does not use a generic game engine, it has a fairly custom rendering engine but it is clear that it uses chromatic aberration. Toggle the option mentioned above. It will not remove CA everywhere-- in particular, some unusual planets have CA effects-- but it will help.
Personally if I notice or see it in a game I don't really care or take note. I have a game we used to play and my ten year said a few times "this game makes me sleepy". I thought he WAS just sleepy but then I noticed he'd change games and perk up. Then I saw something on CA. I looked and turned it off for him and me (both PCs) and it made such a difference I couldn't believe it. I really wish they just take it out or at least have an option to remove it.
I know what CA is IRL and why some DEVs or whatever got convinced it was a good thing tp put in games but it's really just some artsy fartsy thing from film school. We don't need it and it doesn't add to the look of a game. IMHO.
I want to thank everyone for their time and help. cswiger, especially if his info is correct explained NMS's CA very well. I wish HG would address the issue but maybe it's too the point that it's so ingrained in their program/game that to take it out would be more trouble than it's worth. I just wish they'd say that.
I did already have that option turned off. I just thought I'd turn off CA in NMS and ended up going down a rabbit hole LOL
But yeah it's scan and vignettes.
What they mean by 'three d' here is the old garbage 3-d movies with their bicolored glasses to make an effect. It is entirely unnecessary in games like this. While I understand why some games and artists use it, it instantly marks that thing a couple steps down for me.
The only time I'm ok with these is if there is some special cut scene or we are viewing the world through a camera lens for a specific purpose, etc. Like looking through security camera footage or something. It is never ok in first person when you are suppose to be just a person walking through the world.
