However, as a practical matter the class of the freighter is most relevant from large to small, which are S, A, B, and C classes.
However, appearance matters to some people, and there are some freighter types that are more annoying to land on than others, because of objects that interfere while landing, while other appearance types do not.
I hope you're playing the current expedition, which has taught me a lot about the new freighter changes, and which you in particular might like, since you start on a C class freighter, completely safe, unlike the normal game.
I'm not sure if it's just my luck, but I've been wondering if they capped what kind of freighters and what class of freighters can appear in this expedition.
T3 economy systems have a higher chance of spawning s-class freighters. If you are looking for the large -aka capital type- they only spawn once every 3 hours and will require 5 warp jumps before a space battle is triggered; best thing is to have a save prior to the jump that triggers the battle so you can keep reloading/warping till you get an s-class.
No, that's not true. Until the recent freighter update, you could not teleport to your freighter.
You had to manually fly your ship to your freighter.
However, you're right with respect to it's probably no longer a concern when choosing a freighter.
Edited Note: I'm still trying to get my head around the recent freighter changes, which the current Expedition is helping a lot.
Yes. My husband found a freighter he liked, in a T3 economy. However, it took him 200 reloads or so to finally get an S class version.
I found an A class freighter that I liked, of course also in a T3 economy, bought it and called it a day.
Especially the bigger inventory is a strong selling point for some people (the look often times is another one).
If you just prefer the other freighters that are available to you, then choose those.
I, for myself, prefer the hauler ones.
It's with all in NMS: If you like the look of something, then get it because the look of things is the most important stat in this game. No other stats even come close to that.
I've been warping for hours on end and visiting whatever freighters happen to be in the system, since as far as I can tell, that's the only way to get a new freighter in this expedition.
The freighters I've been seeing have been C class, and I haven't seen a single of the good looking freighters, the ones that look like giant battleships or Star Wars star destroyers.
The way players use this definition though is that there are 2 types of bigger freighters, each with different sizes too (but with same stats).
I got a "capital" venator type freighter but in length, it has only 2 little set of round reservoirs.
I'm trying to get the same type but up to 6 in length...
It serves no real purpose but to have the biggest freighter possible.
If they do and have the same number of Fleet Coordination points as an S-class Capital ship then yes the only key difference between them is number of Cargo Slots.
I will recommend that you go with the Aesthetic on this one. Is it not better to have a freighter you love looking at when you come to dock, than have one that is ugly in your eyes but can ave 200 tonnes of Mona Lisa paintings in it. I.e She may not look the part but she is beautiful on the inside. xD . Not that I think the Mona Lisa painting is beautiful in my eyes but i hope you get the point.
Beside, you can manage well with Inventory slots now almost everywhere in abundance. Even much so when playing on Normal save. Unless you are a collector and do not like trading in those preserved Smelly Socks artefacts that you unearthed.
