Craft with resources from Storage in Base?

Returned to NMS, and started a new save. Standing in my base (next to Containers), I can't build/craft items/tech/etc by using resources stored in Base Containers.
I can place stuff in Containers via Inventory menu, but I have to extract resources from Containers, place it in my inventory, to be able to craft.

When did we loose that feature?

You still have it, and it works the way it always has, the mechanics are just weird.

You have two methods of access - one: you're on the same planet as your completed storage containers. two: you have completed your storage containers on your freighter, and you have the matter beam installed.

I prefer the latter. You can then call your freighter into any system and have immediate access to all materials in all storage units, freighter storage and cargo.

I'm fairly certain that it still works with your Freighter -onboard or on planet - if you have the matter beam and storage rooms installed.

It works if you have a freighter with the matter beam in system. Pretty easy to call it in if not in system.

Do you know if there is a mod like "craft from chest" or in this case "craft from container" ?
I've searched, but found nothing.
(I don't have a freighter.)

Seems like something that would be very useful. I'm surprised it isn't already implemented.

It is. You just have to be in a location that allows access to the containers.

The conversation is almost 3 months old at this point, before Waypoint.

The truth is that if you have the matter beam installed on your freighter and it is in system you can craft from storage containers installed on the freighter from any where in the system. You can also pull and put things into storage containers from anywhere in the system. It is a really nice feature.

I doubt HG is ever going to do something similar for land bases, since it would overlap and is really one of the only reasons I keep a base on a freighter at all.

I've noticed I can no longer send stuff from my inventory to the storage containers (press x over item) unless I actually have the storage containers built on the planet I'm on, even if I have the freighter in orbit with the freighter version of the storage containers on board and matter beam. Not exactly the same as OP but similar problem.

There is a setting for it. Why bother with a mod when you can just turn it on?

You can also send stuff to storage boxes if you enter your base on your freighter. It doesn't work just being in the hangar or on the bridge, you need to enter your base. Then you can send stuff to your storage boxes with X.

If you use the pick up an item in your "hand" and then click on the freighter and use the e and q keys to move over to the storage container of interest, you can just drop it in. It works anywhere in the system. Also works in reverse if you need something and you keep it in a storage container (like a Vykeen dagger at a monolith to find a portal)
