items lost in advanced refiner on ship
Hey there
When refining on ship my mats suddenly dissappear when a npc is standing next to the refiner?
How do i prevent that or prevent npc from getting near the refiner?
Lost ALOT of mats to this bug.
Anyone else having this issues on board the ships refiner?
BTW this is in exploration mode.

there are hundreds of topics about this very problem posted in these forums and on reddit... yes, others are seeing similar problems with the refiners... i don't think anyone has attributed it to NPCs being near them, though...

If I find anyone on my crew stealing I make em walk the plank.

Other then that its kinda anoying that Hello Games is overhauling the entire Freighter and overlooks an old problem and have not fixed it.
Specialy sins all items on the Freighter, including the refiners, have been overhauled in a way that they are now a ships item and not a seperate item you already knew and was able to place on the Freighter.
So they actualy added the refiner to the ships as a commodity but did not fix the bug.
That in it self is hugly anoying after all the time the complaints are flowing on this item.

Don't use the ship refiners unless you want to sit there and wait with the refiner window open and not move. If you even dare look away the stuff will probably vanish. This doesn't happen to me in base refiners though. I can literally come back to the planet/base hours later and my stuff is there.

In this case you just were lucky as base refiners can bug out, too, by the exact same way. All things that have input and output can bug out. This "feature" is as old as implementing those machines.

They are all buggy, have lost stuff on land bases as well as freighters. But then yesterday I came back to 5 refiners on my freighter full of nanites I had forgotten about several days ago. I had been back and forth, ported the freighter around and there they were, safe and sound. Not a suggestion, but to show the game giveth as well as taketh away.

Send a report to zendesk. Ever hopeful.

Remove any extractors on the ship and don't do a big refining job anywhere where other players might enter or leave the system. Stay in the general area of the refiners at all time while they are working. That will keep you safe enough from most bugs that you'll keep around 90% of your material.

Unless you get locked into the bug where random items appear in the refiner, deleting anything else in them. That one has resisted all efforts to reset, up to and including removing the affected refiners and building new ones later.

Hello
Thx for all the answers, good to know im not alone with this "feature"
I literally just happened while looking at the job being done, a npc pushed me away from the machine and the stuff was gone.
Perhaps a bug where anything active in the job window vanish when another input wants to show on the screen?
Was really happy i could bring my advanced base with me from system to system otherwise.

I get six or more refiners running simultaneously regularly. If you don't leave the area, don't jump the freighter, and don't have other players entering or leaving the system, they only rarely bug out.

Yeah i had put a ton of rusted metal in one of the new refiners, walked away to do other stuff, and when i got back it had eaten it. Just like the old ones.

I had a slightly different experience. I had a look in the large refiner on my freighter and there was 4 runaway mould in the input slot and 1999 nanites in the output slot.

I didn't put in any runaway mould. My refinery seems to have literally picked up a stack of runaway mould from the ether.

same here... i regularly have four refiners running... two doing the di-hydrogen jelly dance and two doing the chlorine dance... sometimes i'll fire up a 5th one for mould conversion but it depends on various other factors...

Probably more efficient use of time than me. After a run of freighter missions, I set them all to refining activated whatever + pure ferrite to make a ridiculous amount of chromatic, then chromatic+oxygen+ferrite dust to make tiny amounts of platinum, then platinum+gold+silver into nanites.

Because nanites are more useful than...anything else I can get out of that nonsense.

Yes, lost 150 million in Chlorine the other day. It only happens when you warp away so I just sit there and baby sit them. Have had no problems since.

I have the same issue. Random mats appearing in my advanced refiner (on the Freighter), and my own refining jobs disappearing.
