Where will i get freighter upgrade modules in normal mode

In my expedition save which converted to a normal save i got the upgrades through the expedition, i want to start a new normal save but where am i gonna get those upgrades,im thinking its probably derelict freighters which i dont like very much, is there anywhere else?

Freighter Upgrade Modules are found on Derelict Freighters. The Derelict Freighter is found by using the Emergency Broadcast Receiver. https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Emergency_Broadcast_Receiver

You can get one from the a few places:

Can be purchased from the Scrap Dealer aboard the Space Station.
Can be received as a reward from Nexus missions.
Iteration Helios offers a free receiver each week,
Travellers must complete a derelict freighter mission before Helios will start offering a free receiver.

Crashed freighters, frigate expeditions, community missions, and derelict freighters (although you are avoiding the ones you land on, there is an older type where you shoot cargo pds.).

Another option is shooting the cargo pods on and around NPC freighters, this is not recommended though.

If you have glyphs for portal then farming derelict freighters that contains a lot of containers which you can get the coordinates from guides on the internet. If not then pirating those freighters in outlaw system by destroying those cargo pods though the drop chance is like 1% per pods, but there are lots of them so it's not too bad imo.

In normal mode, high difficulty, long frigate industrial missions.

Much faster is to play the Expedition again and not spend any of them (nor cargo bulkheads - you will eventually be able to obtain a much better freighter, if you have a trusted friend in normal mode who can transfer such things to your main save there. You can do that as often as you wish, until the Expedition ends.

Although the singularity engine can be useful. Despite not being able to specify where it goes, it's generally towards the galactic core), and I don't know if it will transfer to a better freighter, or if the mechanic to talk to the captain to activate it would be functional if you replaced your Expedition frigate with a better one.

I used to get them from Random Frigate Missions tho since the freighter upgrade I haven't got any in over 40 missions so seems they took them out of the loot table for Frigate missions now.
I did get 2 from the one Derelict Freighter I managed to run tho seems I may have to run some more so I can get the ramp/stairs back that I used to have in my freighter.

Onboard derelict freighters. You need to be careful though, you never know what you might find onboard. During the Endurance I found something aboard that nearly made me jump out my skin. Needless to say I went in all guns blazing, it was a very close call.

also thats outside the freighter near the landing pad so looks like you waited for them to finish hoping they didnt change the pvp setting and come outside then you killed them knowing full well it dont save there so they lost everything they just did

* Piracy and shooting freighters (rare)
* Given out as mission rewards (rare)
* Given out as nexus rewards (rare)
* Returned from industrial expeditions (rare)
* Loot in big blue grates in abandoned freighter mission (less rare).

The best source is likely boarding derelicts. It very quickly gets annoying and repetitive, though.

The single best source is INDUSTRIAL Frigate Expeditions. A 66-100% chance. So if you get an Industrial one on your list, send a full 5 ship fleet at least 1 star above the expedition.

Everything else has a really low rate.
Derelict Freighter 5%
Nexus rewards 5%
Crashed Freighters 8%

Alternatively becoming a full flagged Pirate is extremely lucrative in the modules.

The point of derelict freighter is that you get 5% chance per each big blue crate. Meaning if you find a derelict with a LOT of crates, it turns into almost guaranteed 1-2 modules per run or more.

However, grinding for modules is awful, so a lot of people simply dupe them.
