if you did the above, too, have you drifted or moved since dropping out of pulse? if not, it may be that it just isn't rendering but is there... try moving forward slowly and see if you can trigger the contact dialogs... it should be directly in front of you...
i don't recall any kind of marker, though... there might have been one but i just didn't see it... it is almost just like finding the derelict freighters you have to wander about on with no saving until you complete them... you just don't get out but instead speak to them via the comms...
(if not ignore the next bit)
one of the mods i use was blocking the spawn...rather than waste time trying to figure out which one, i just removed them all until after i got the Leviathan.
PS. to actually get the Leviathan, just go into space and while drifting (NOT pulsing) activate the flute, the Leviathan will spawn right in front of you (no dashing about required)
I can attest to this being the way also. Not sure about mods because I never use them. But, I made the horn, flew out of my freighter a little way and used it. In a few seconds the Leviathan spawned just like a frigate entering the system. It had a marker, flew toward it and bingo...
As dumb as it sounds, but it worked. I did not think at all about this, many thanks :D
