How to use Storage Containers in base?
So I build some storage containers in my base, but I don't know how to access it easily. Do I need to open each of them individually whenever I want to transfer stuff?

That's the only way I know of, on planet-side bases.

If you build the storage on your frighter, you can access them from the freighter inventory tab and use drag and drop, but planet-side it seems the only option is to interact with them.

Personally, I just build 1 container on my planet-side bases and send things to it with the X-pickup option to "send to container inventory" and then actively sort and arrange it all into the correct containers later from my freighter.

Yes, if on land you will need to access each one individually. You can name the containers.

If you have a freighter and the matter beam, things become much easier with storage containers. If the freighter is in system, you can access the containers from anywhere you are in the system. You can add or take from them.

On the freighter you can craft without needing to pull stuff from containers. It will just be considered part of your inventory for crafting.

Edit: There is a trick if your storage containers are not powered. You have to be near them at your land base, but you can still use the inventory system to work with them. It is obviously better to have them powered, but that is not always convenient in the moment.

Would be interesting to have a freight coordination desk or something you can build and then activate to access all your base cargo you can flip through and move cargo to/from.

Painfully.

Did this change recently? In the past, while in a base with containers, I could access containers from my inventory tab. I almost never have to interact with the containers directly once I've placed them.

That was under the freighter tab. Its confusing if you think too hard about it. The containers on your base are accessed via freighter containers. I build all the containers at my main base then drop stuff in there using (X) just like I was standing in my freighter base.

The base containers are the same as the containers you build on your freighter. Honestly it's easiest to just build them on your freighter and upgrade your freighter to have an inventory teleporter. That way so long as your capital ship is in the system you have complete access to all your container storage. With regular freighter storage being available at all times.

Having the containers in your base just gives you access at your base but you'll have go into them individually.. They don't tab like they do on the freighter inventory screen.

You can from the freighter inventory tab. And if you have the matter transporter... or whatever that teleporter on the freighter is called, you can do it from a ground base as long as the freighter is in the same system.

I don't recall ever being able to access them from the inventory tabs without the freighter.

This is where the confusion sets in. When your freighter is in the system, you don't have to walk up to base containers to access them. The quick drop works the same way.

... you have that in the inventory screen, just go left and right
Storage in NMS is supposed to be confusing. That's why there's no 'sort' option. :steammocking:

How can so many people not know how inventory works!

On base you can access storage containers that you build and don't even have to power them up. Open your suit inventory and press X on an empty slot and you can cycle through everything in storage, in your exocraft, and in your ship.

As long as you are in range of a powered base with storage containers you can see them available in their own tabs in your inventory. If you custom named them they will even show. Items are shared across all containers in all bases, each numbered container is like its own Ender Chest from Minecraft for example.

The more useful note is this applies to the storage containers in your freighter as well. With the item teleportation upgrade installed you can access your storage containers in your inventory just as long as your freighter exists in the same solar system as you. Crafting recipes will feed from it too for ingredients.

Storage containers on a base have to be powered with electricity, either from a generator or solar panels.
