Worth repairing ships to sell/salvage?
Just wondering, I've got 3ish ships in my freighter that can fly but aren't fixed. I'm fixing one up, but I was wondering if I should just dump the others...

Unless you are in love with the look of the ship, usually best to just scrap them.

They reduced the costs at one point, but generally speaking it's still not really worth it. Possibly if you have tons of Repair kits to burn, but generally it's quicker and easier just to scrap them and take the lesser benefit, and make up for it by getting more ships if that's how you enjoy playing.

They also nerfed the trade in value. You used to be able to trade them for another ship with no consideration of the damage. I think value is now calculated based on undamaged slots.
If I remember correctly I scrapped an unrepaired crashed hauler value at 35mil and got back 10mil. I got a 2nd identical crashed hauler that I did do the repairs to use as storage. That one has a scrap value of over 20mil when last I checked.

I guess we get 9 ship slots now, so not as dramatic, but you never want to find the ship of your dreams and only have the exchange your current ship option. I think 9 is 3 too many, but I try to keep my ship stable to around four, with the option for a couple more if I just can't resist the offer.

I calculated the cost, and it is worth while to fix slots, especially on larger ships. The more slots there are, the more each slot is worth. The value is totaled based on repaired slots. Whether it is worth your time, that depends on if you like the grind or prefer faster methods to generate credits (like salvagable scrap or ancient bones). I like the grind, so I try to fix as many as I can that don't require a wiring loop.

Costwise sure, but it costs a lot in time and aggravation :)

There are faster and less annoying (for me) ways to make units.

Not if you're a hoarder like me and have tons of every crap material in storage units. As for time, it flys by so I'm having fun :steammocking:

It's not worth repairing any crashed ship. it would be quicker to dig up buried technology or bones and buy an S-class ship than repair any of the crashed ones you find.

If you have a freighter, and spare room in the hanger. Takes very few resources to get a crashed ship into a minimal flyable condition. Repair the launchers and pulse engines, nothing else - then leave the ship where you found it. It will be transferred to your freighter.

Later, whenever it's convenient: summon your freighter close to a space station and fly the damaged ship to the station and scrap it. It won't have any shields, and might not have weapons, so you don't want to risk long flights.

Two benefits: 1) the credits you generate will far exceed the cost of the repairs you made. 2) there's a small chance you may obtain one, or more, storage augmentation modules that you can use to add storage slots in one of your other ships.

Nothing in a sandbox game is "Not worth it" if you enjoy doing whatever it is and time flys by. That's the point of having fun in video games.

They're only worth fixing if you like the ship and it's class is better than what you have. It's a good way to get a new ship early in the game before you have the tech and credits to earn money quickly and easily.

However if you're planning to scrap the ship just fix the launcher and pulse engine to get it to the station. Don't repair anything more than that. Opening up broken slots is expensive and even repairing weapons and shields can be costly. I don't think the ship value increases enough to make it worth doing when scrapping.

To clarify: repairing any damaged TECH slots, DOES NOT change the value.

Additional clarification: If you intend to scrap the ship you do not need to repair ANY item. Go to the Anomaly, switch current ship to one being scrapped, use teleporter & travel to Space station, scrap ship.

I suppose what wouldn't be worth it would be if the cost outweighed the payout. Like, if it cost 5mil in supplies to repair and then only traded for 4.5mil
