What do you guys build in the freighters?
According to the game Wiki, there are 13 floors and 20x20 of those large freighter rooms per floor. That's a lot of fricken space. So far in all my playthroughs, I have never expanded beyond the first floor.
I think it makes sense to build money printing machines, ehrr, farms, in the freighter because it doesn't consume power. The biodome thing has a nice of feature of harvesting automatically for you with the press of a button, but it consumes 50 watts of power.
But besides that, what else do you build in freighters besides storage spaces? Unfortunately, the refiners and cooking stations shouldn't be on freighters due to the bug I kept complaining about.
But with so much space in freighters, I am not sure what else to build.

I do put refiners and nutrient processors on mine and everything seems to be fine. I tend to usually build a large farm with 10-20 of each plant. But once at the unit cut off, I remove most of them and the extra rooms.

But honestly, there are a lot of videos on freighter base builds, designs and glitches. You should check them out. I've seen a lot of interesting ideas in them along with glitching tutorials.

refiner, commerce terminal

edit: also portal

portal, duplicates of any storage boxes so I can access my stuff away from my base.
a refiner. cooking station.

treat it as a mobile base.

First floor I placed my refinery's, yup multiple, and my engineers with there workstations.
Allong one wall I created all the storage container rooms from 0 to 9.
Portal, Changing station, food processor and some deco. Stuff like that.

Left end right from the halway to the flightdeck I created 2 captain rooms and 2 more at the back of the staircase from the hangar.
That way I can sent out 4 missions at a time. (sending out missions is a nice credit harvester and such)

Second floor I put my flower beds. (enormous to see)
Those are for the stuff I need for crafting.

My setup is to create Stasis Chambers on a massive scale.
There are 2 high end Trade items you can create.
Stasis chambers are one of them with a yield of arround 15 million each.
Doing a full run for say 2 weeks gives a return od arround 1 billion in credits.
Off cours you also need a few basis on planets to harvest gasses that you need in the proces.

As a tip. There are refinery tables you can find on the internet that shows how to combine stuff in your 2 tier and 3 tier refiners.
I will give an example:
3 tier refinernery. Put in Silver, Gold and Indium. Output is 1-30 on Chromatic metal.
so 1 silver + 1 gold + 1 indium gives 30 Chromatic metal.
Kinda nice to know right? :) No more hunting copper for that.

note: In the old days I had to recreate my setup each time I bought a new freighter.
Nowadays your setup is transfered to your new freighter I noticed when starting a new safe.

In my freighter base so far I got all the Storages, exocraft signal thing, 6+ command rooms, made a hydroponic farm room today and decorated it as well. Im gonna have each of the stations for the npcs in a room below my storages. Before my storages I got my utility room with a large refiner, portal, health station, hazard station, nutrient processor, the big ass box for the base retrieval I never figured out, construction terminal. I got a trade terminal by the storages as well. Im gonna pimp it out with more decoration further once I go farm for more salvaged tech lol. I farmed 300 during expe expecting the cost to drop. Boy oh boy was I pleased xD literally bought all the prefab tab, most of the cuboids, bunch of decoration, the exocrafts I was missing… already had the underwater tab filled out for free from the mission for it. Ill hunt for more of those fossilized decoration as well! Put 2 already in my hydroponic farm where ill farm nipnip huehuehue.

My freighter base is gonna be sick :3 plus i wont have to break it down if I switch freighter since a patch a while ago. Base dont get wiped anymore ^^ never cared much on designing the inside before.

very nice guys. I wonder if anyone have all 13 floors completely outfitted? That will need a lot of silver. I have a silver mine, but I am only able to get about 6-7 large rooms created per playing session. It will take a long time to have stuff going on in every floor.

I didn't know we could build on 13 floors! LOL. There're reports of players falling through their freighter base and dying a horrible death in space. Which is more common on heavily modified bases.

I only use the default floor provided: manual save unit, galactic terminal, teleporter, storage containers, exocraft summoning room, and a refiner to make fuel components.

storage
base teleporter module (even if it is "one way")
2x large refiners + 3x medium refiners
6v fleet command room
galactic trade terminal
health/shield recharge
small farm as a gene bank

large farm imho is not worth it,
harvesting takes a lot longer compared to farming witha bio dome based agriculture

keep in mind there is a global structure limit of 20k
and
a local/base limit of 3k, plants add to this count

That makes sense. I have noticed that your body is loaded first and then structures. If the base is heavily modified, you spawn before any structure does due to the lag, and then you fall out of the freighter. Having more structures would cause more lag. I have a permadeath save. I make sure that my save location is always on the ground and not somewhere upstairs and definitely not in the freighter.
I didn't know there are more floos. Cool to know even though I haven't build anything yet other than the basic station rooms, storage box rooms and a teleporter.

I've usually used three decks.

The first deck has features I use frequently: the fleet command rooms, the refiners, a teleporter, a trade terminal.

Second deck is mostly hydroponics, with one large hydroponic tray for each plant type. I don't bother with farming much, so it's mostly a reserve resource.

Third deck is for freighter storage units and the orbital exocraft materializer. In practice I never need to visit these things.

At this point I only need a ground base for my exocraft summoning stations. And strictly speaking I don't need a base for that, but it makes it easier to go back to them. I recently tore up most of my ground bases and want to rework my freighter interior for aesthetics, but still mostly as I described above.

Fleet control rooms. Storage containers. A bunch of standing planters for easy carbon access. Portal. Trade terminal. All the allowable medium and large refiners. Health Station.

I usually clear space to display one example of each glitch type as trophies. Other than that I don't do any decoration or constructions. I once built long hallways or extra floors, just to see what that was like. But i never used those extra spaces, so I no longer bother.

So I'm kind of boring and utilitarian.

Me too. It is not uncommon for me to see "space" as I enter the base portion of the freighter now. I have never fallen through (yet) but it reminds me that the freighters are not known for stability and best to keep a minimal profile.

Just because you can go bigger does not mean you should go bigger. I like having my farming station on planet so I can grow at least one crop in the dirt next to the base. Unless they changed it, the main missions do not work well with a freighter base. You end up with icons pointing to random areas in space instead of the actual location.

A few months ago I played through the base specialist missions on a new save. The exocraft technician has to be at a planetary base, but missions for the other four worked fine with their terminals on the freighter. The missions were properly on planets.

I have trust issues with the freighter so only use one floor. On the hallway from captain's area I have 4 frigate fleet rooms. At the main T I go left for the last two frigate rooms as you can have out at least 6 fleets at any one time, well 5 with one old one that has long route. On the Rt have manual save, sales terminal and portal. Heading back on the right are storage rooms and the exocraft room. The middle is large open space with at the four corners 5 refiners each and along one wall it's all wall planters so I never have to worry about carbon again, tyvm. The center is rows of plants for making money. Once I am rich I dump about half the plants and the 2 back refiners and shrink the room up, placing just one of the refiner sets middle back. Shrinking in the room means more space somewhere on a planet for a base.

After I finish the base missions I bring those guys up on the freighter just for giggles, and they give out quests for a while after the initial quest lines have finished. For me this has worked really well and simplifies my life. I know it is really handy to build the biodomes and my very first save has a set I go to about every 6 months or so. But the freighter is just so handy. I run the refiners while sending out the fleet so not just staring at them.

It is important to remember refiners can't be trusted, so don't leave them running while you go explore. A couple times lately I have obviously spaced it out and come back to refiners full of nanites or molds so it doesn't eat stuff all the time.

Pushing the envelope opening up huge multiple floors in a game known for glitches seems a fools errand to me. And a waste of mats and time - your mileage and chosen path may well vary. It's all good.
