The amount of improvements NMS got by the 4.0 iteration is astonishing and amazing. A fresh wind into this game. A new approach to stale things. And an incorporation of a lot of features and mechanics that were requested for years already.
A well-rounded, rock-solid update.
And a foundation for more changes and additions to come.
It was something NMS needed.
How I feel? Pleased by Waypoint.
I don't like how the update messed up all my ships and some items are gone or converted to items I do not want.
Large facilities like Activated Indium farms are not worth doing now.
It won't be too bad in a New Start, I can live with it, but borking the saves I have. Contemplating wiping them all after I have a few new saves under my belt.
but I will keep the save on Paholiang galaxy.
I've huge inventories across nine ships and the game has not changed. All I have is a little organising to do, which is to be expected. In actual fact knowing the game so well the recent inventory management I think works very well in practice. The cinematic experience of the game remains intact when using the new menus. Though the instant clarity of the earlier full screen menus were helpful but could be fiddly with larger inventories to navigate. It's apples and pears.
A few days since release now and it is already becoming familiar with my controller play and button use. If I have a little grumble I would like an option to turn off the busy numbering of items, which I don't need to see to play. The icons and quantities are shown in pop up anyway and so for graphic clarity (with more and smaller icons) perhaps bring back their scaling bar as an indicator of totals, like they had in the early game. The game has some wonderful screenshots which could be designed into menu backgrounds instead of the plum coloured 'linux' flavour presentation we now currently have.
Other than that. Really enjoying the additions (and there are lot), and clearly a lot of work by Hello Games. It's really, really good. Being able to customise the game is great. Permadeath though should remain out front and centre of the stage with the other title screens. Love the expanded exocar inventories, Love that new Trade Rocket idea and animation. The person who though of that needs a pat on the back.
- Now we need an actual escape pod rocket with a little window to watch the stars fly by,as we hurtle safely towards a planet trapped inside, then look up to watch our Freighter explode and our inventories scattered across an entire system. That actually would be cool.
The tweaks to effects and animations are welcome. I'm so glad that we have a refreshed catalogue, milestones and the game writing and stories can be read. There's some excellent and amusing writing in the game like the music. Reading the patch notes there is a lot to enjoy in the update. One good thing about Hello Games is their attention to detail and the game has a wonderful atmosphere for a sci fi game which looks gorgeous The game is so good now. I've every faith in Hello Games they'll improve everything and refine things like they always do. : DCan't wait now for the next Expedition!!!
I feel good, I knew that I would, now
So good, so good, I got you (NMS)
I feel nice, like sugar and spice

4.0 is great thnx very much for asking
I'd rather they spent more time on advancing end game. Like giving us a reason to jump galaxies besides more of the same old, same old. A search for alien tech or something to stop the reset permanently maybe.
The biggest point of concern seems to be how the new inventory system works now, but I feel it will grow on most very quickly. Personally I don't see any problems with it, but that's maybe because I always put everything in my tech slots anyway, so most of my ships will be fine.
One great addition, that gets overlooked by many, is the option to store installed tech and upgrades for later use, or transfer them to other ships and/or multi-tools you have. Never again the feel shall I put this here or there, just swap the item at your convenience.
I do like how they changed the look and feel of the menus and the tailor made options possible to set the difficulty of the game to your personal taste. Also the option to name your saves is a nice quality of life upgrade.
All in all, I'm quite happy with the overall feel of this one. Personally I always found this game was more about exploring new worlds and phenomena, then min/maxing your tools and ships.
On that note I embark on my solar vessel properly named "The Winds of Change" and head off to the skies. Success exploring everyone. ;-)
maybe they can code something to make the "inventory container" "public" and then allow you to transfer.
One thing they could improve is the icons for minerals. For example copper and activated copper look too similar.
But as with all changes I'll adapt and get on with the gettin' on.
