Oxygen
I decided to do a fresh restart once 4.0 was released.

Now I see that you cant buy oxygen at the trade terminals nor the NPC's landing in a space station. It seems HG have nerf'd the sale of oxygen as I cant find anywhere to buy it.

I'm at the stage where I have a very simply base but not yet got a power station online (electromagnetic generators) or oxygen farm. On previous saves I used chlorine and purchased oxygen to generate 30 million or so to fund the purchase of materials for a power station, oxygen farm and my main base proper.

Does anyone know where I can get reasonable amounts of oxygen in 4.0 without building a farm.

there is an option in the difficult settings that affects wot items are available for sale.
look, read and adjust that setting to your liking

I think getting some data modules and unlocking the mining thing is by far your best option now, both short and long term. You can find tens of modules pretty quickly so it shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks, It seems that normal default game is no longer the normal default game prior to 4.0.

I cant understand why HG would Nerf the sale of oxygen and at the same time give you the option to buy items for free, why not leave what was available to buy alone. I dont want everything for free, or the game to be so simple that its not worth playing

For anyone else looking for a solution to this problem you need to set GOODS AVAILABILITY to ABUNDANT in your DIFFICULTY SETTINGS

Every intention of building a farm, but as I said I'm at that stage where building a farm would cost money unless I waited till I collected all the tech and resources to build said farm.

Once i have my power station up and running and a simply oxygen farm going there will be no need to buy oxygen again. I find it hard to understand HG's reasoning in this. They are making it harder, not easier for new players.

don't quote me cos this is just my take
new players to the game weren't engaging enough with the survival (forage+craft) elements of the game (probably discovered by how the many, many new players who jumped into expeditions were unprepared)
so the default for normal got set to 'learn not buy'...or maybe i'm wrong, only HG knows...still as you can change it no real damage done.
it's just a question of balance maybe HG may change or refine the items available in future

My strategy at your stage to reduce build cost would be run hard at unlocking the mining equipment, then build a rust mine (so everything else you build is easy to afford) then oxygen and youre away from that point ...

A big oxygen patch will give you a couple thousand and they are incredibly obvious as you fly over a planet. I don't know what you need more than say 2000-5000 for at a time. I keep my oxygen supply topped off without ever buying any, but if you're never exploring on the surface, you'll have to set up gas suckers.

It is *way* easier to pick oxygen from plants than it is to farm or buy it. Just fly around and look for that big patch.

If I were HG I would have simply capped the amount of oxygen available at trade terminals and NPC's say to 100 or so. Not enough for it to be used as a constant source for Chlorine regeneration but enough to seed the finance and construction of farms for both chlorine and oxygen.

Depends on the planet. Steep terrain/ extreme storms/ water worlds etc not so - and theres always been a lot of variability in oxygen plants.

But actually, now I think about it, wasnt there something in the patch notes about oxygen plants being more densely distributed now? (which also explains why its not needed at terminals)

@remid0d0s0

I use oxygen and chlorine to generate units. Oxygen patches simply would not be enough on a daily basis. As said previously why I need the oxygen now is for seed money to buy expansion slots and purchase some of the rarer construction items to get me going,

Once I have my oxygen and chlorine farm up and running and a power plant as in my previous save the only reason for me to go to trade terminals will be to sell stuff not buy stuff

All I can say in this case is that you're generating units wrong, not like optionally preferentially wrong, but completey wrong if you are using oxygen or chlorine for that at any stage of the game other than 3 hours into it.

How could it possibly be wrong?

Two simply farms for oxygen and chlorine will generate 50+ million a day.
My daily routine is log in,harvest chorine and oxygen, process them and while your refiners are doing that harvest your planted crops, trade it in and then continue on with what ever else I want to do in the game. rinse and repeat each day.

At the start chlorine is all you need to generate enough money to build up enough to buy a S class ship or tool. Later you add other farms such as nip nip, gravitno balls etc. Easy regular money for just the effort of setting it all up, and still valid no matter what stage off the game you are in.

If you want to make real money, you'd have different farms. 50 million a day is a drop in the ocean. There are farms that make that in an hour - and those are probably the slower ones.

With that said, I don't recommend farming like that for units. You'll find yourself at the unit cap without actually having done anything.

Chlorine isn't worth as much as it used to be. Went from a value of $6 million / 10,000 to just under $2 million / 10,000. Better revise your estimate to <$20 million a day for the same amount of time spent processing it.
