Can we bring survival mode back?
I was looking forward to playing with all the changes in the 4.0 Waypoint updated, but I was horrified when I realized my survival save is now creative mode. I found that I can make everything free in the difficulty options. Is this really as intended or am I misunderstanding something? No Man's Sky is so appealing to me because I can grind while exploring an amazing game universe. The way I understand it, is that despite the options displaying as:

Normal, Relaxed, Creative, Survival, and Custom..

.. they are all really just "Custom" now, right?

I'm not sure if there is a way to go back after the update, but I think a better implementation would have been to keep all of the individual difficulties locked out of making things easier than the mode started. You could always allow players that want to make it easier to convert to "custom mode" at any time. By doing so, you actually have separate game modes as a feature and freedom for players to choose their preferred player group. Right now, there is really only expedition and everything else is actually just "custom."

No man's sky has been great; I have really enjoyed it, and don't want to bash it. For me, I prefer a game mode where everyone must earn their progress. I hope that there is a new game mode in the future that separates players that like a challenge from those that want a casual game experience. I would be willing to repurchase the game, in order to have my survival experience back. Limited time ship skin purchases may be a cool way to get income from the old player base to keep the servers alive and well. For now I am thankful for the enjoyment the game has brought me, but I just don't like playing games in God Mode. It destroys my immersion for some reason. I hope you all enjoy the update!

This isn't a MMO, your characters are stored on your PC. If you do any multiplayer it has always been with people capable of using mods or cheats and that is not against the rules. You are only in control of your own gameplay, leave the game on the settings you want and play the game the way you want, you have no control over what other people are doing and you never have.

It isn't the same to me. It's like making a nice meal for yourself, you know? When you cook it produces a delicious meal, but sometimes you enjoy the process of cooking too. It is most especially rewarding when you make something and it turns out delicious! However, if you had access to a world class chef that could prepare the meal instantly for you, at no cost, would you still take the time to cook it yourself?

I dunno if your picking up what I'm putting down, but the game is not the same for me. For a game to grab my attention I want to work for my accomplishments so I can digest both the final product, as well as the satisfaction of the work it took to produce. As for NMS, forcing survival to have the same access to creative mode perks does not seem like an improvement to me. I just want the option back of pure survival back.

Mods are always available, but are obviously beyond the scope of normal game modes. I am more than happy for you to play how you like; I am not sure where you picked up the idea that I want control over someone elses game experience. :steammocking:

I don't think video games and food are quite the same. In fact, with food, a world class chef will make a much more satisfying dish than I can. There's nothing satisfying about lowering the difficulty in NMS to get everything free

If I enjoyed cooking as a hobby? Hell yes, I would.

I honestly don't see what the problem is? 95%+ of the games I've played in my life, you could adjust the difficulty settings after starting a playthrough. Or you could open the console and type cheat codes. Or you could save-scum.

I don't do those things, because I don't want to. There's literally nothing forcing me to do that. Nor does it change my perception of the game, knowing that - at any moment! /gasp - I could go into options and make the game easier. Or harder. Or stupider (most 'hardcore' or 'survival' settings in games that will never be either of those things.)

It's a survival game as long as you don't mess with the settings. In fact it's considerably harder or at least more annoying due to crafting/damage/repair.

There are a zillion ways to "nerf" your survival save; the new buttons are just one of them.

Its simple...as others have stated, setup your difficulty settings and promise yourself to never touch them again for that playthrough. Its works well. I am doing it.

Ultimate choice means you have to decide. No one can see you change your settings or use a save back up in your room.

I am enjoying my new save. It is PD, but with normal inventory and I don't lose my save if I die. No more worrying about glitch dying.

Your argument falls completely flat because you've always had the option to use the save editor, dupes, and any number of cheats and exploits. You having no self control is entirely a you problem.

All I'm getting from this is that the difficulty was actually increased for people who lack self-control.

As they now must fight a whole new battle, with a whole new danger... Themselves.

So, well played really to Hello Games.

It's only PD if the save gets wiped at death, that's literally what makes it PD....:steamfacepalm:

WAS is the operative term. They changed it so now you can CHOOSE how you want to play. So sorry for your loss.:steammocking:
