yeah just saw it on display in my local supermarket and in toys store. but it's kind of weird. you have to physically buy some toygear to upgrade your ingame tech. kinda like a disney infinity way where you had to buy figurines, tokens and cards.
Visually similar but completely different game play.
. . . and what about the games NMS copied, to get here ?

You mean how a small team with dreams, came up with a modern classic of their own inspired by 2001, Star Trek, Dune, Asimov paperbacks, Close Encounters, The Hitchhiker's Guide, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Tron and everything in between? Isn't that how cult classics begin, by homage to their peers?

Not only that, they've come up with a game that's fun where we can idly play out all those science fiction fantasies. Hello Games have barely touched the surface of all the possibilities the game could become. They've given us a unique universe and they're listening to us.

No Man's Sky is a child of 80s-90s free roaming/open ended games like Elite and Captain Blood so yes if it is not a classic (but for me just for the idea it is) is at least a game that mimicks the classics. Regarding Starlink, I really want to play it lol. But I don't have money to buy a Switch or a PS4. The closest think I can think about it that's not old is Everspace.

Yeah, it´s a different market strategy, kind of interesting. It´s similar to NMS mostly estheticly.

Could you list one? sounds interesting, because NMS is mostly an original game and concept.

Pretty much any game is borrowing a mechanic of something else. If you don't think any other game has had procedueral generation, infinite worlds, flying ships, shooting things, scanning things, filling out a database, crafting, etc. then you're not paying attention. I mean, a few was already said in this thread.

It's the combination of mechanics that are put together and how the game makes it their own what makes it unique.

Is Starlink procedural with effectively infinite planets to explore? Are its ships and guns procedural?

It seems pretty sketch how they copied NMS’s look, and also called it “Battle for Atlas”... have they no shame? Crimony.

Atlas is a word, not really a name, although it is associated with the god that carries the world on his shoulders. In the dictionary, the word 'Atlas' means a bound collection of maps. You could therefore say it was intended to mean "battle for the charted world". Unfortunately, the translation is a little too vague to constitute a legal suit.

As for the visuals, Procedural generation could well make the worlds similar in appearance as we have seen by so many cookie cutter worlds in NMS. A red dwarf may result in red grass to filter out the excessive red light from the sun on a verdant planet. When it comes to the graphical generation of worlds, even Astroneers looks similar.

It would probably be best to wait and see how their game develops before calling it a copy since the game is only in the very early stages with only the basic essentials that provides a base for gameplay.

Well, it is suspiciously similar, but I´m happy to think they were "inspired" by NMS. That´s what a Classic does...

I think what it was definitly copied (or inspired from) are the visuals emulating those 60´s Sci-fi book covers. Of course NMS didn´t invent that, but it was the game that brought back those visuals to modern Sci fi.

Not sure about classic? Cult Classic maybe? Lots of really good ideas that need to be just fleshed out more to be a classic.
