Restoring Inventory ... then nothing
I stepped away from the screen & got killed in the game by a predator.

I went to the grave and clicked on it. It said "Restoring Inventory" but nothing has returned.

Is there a workaround to get it return the lost inventory? Or is it gone for good?

Anyone have a workaround??

The horrid save system and respawn. Best to keep multiple backups of your custom saves, and make many custom saves. Some have gone as far as making their own batch files to save and reload the game properly. The devs think they are creating gameplay with this system...LOL. Just an annoyance. You'll often notice that when you die, your autosave is corrupted with the death of your previous life. Loading a previous autosave before you died does no good. You have to go back to your custom save that doesn't get corrupted by your previous death. Mainly it saves the lose of your inventory and the damage created by respawning in your autosave (even if it's before your death).

How many times did you die while AFK?

If more than one i guess that you recover the empty inventory, in this case it's normal

If just died once than something is wrong

Not asked Advice: when AFK in solo games use Esc for pause, when in multiplayer, Try inside ships, small base, npc building or space station(not on lending zones).

Normally I do that, but I was wandering around for a long while & never getting attacked by anything. I only saw the death one time. Maybe it was more than once. Dammit!

I just lost a ton of stuff with 48 slots in the exosuit.

Yeah it was Space Crabs that did me in. Those ugly, little crabs scurying around in the weeds.

A note. The autosave gets updated upon death but not a manual save. you should keep manual saves updated often. Beacons at trade ports or anywhere there is a waypoint location. at any death reload the manual save and don't do that, die thing again. also if you need to step away and can't make a beacon try using the terrain tool or geo-grenades to go underground where most things leave you alone. digging a hole only takes a few seconds and can save your life in such situations. or.. Summon your ship if it has launch fuel and climb in it.

Or just carry a Save Point ..... I alwasy call my ship and get in it before i walk away from the computer -- making both a manual and a auto save. I guess lesson learned.

Well, thats' very weird and annoying... In Survival you get no grave and all your exosuit is lost, but because there is the grave I assume you did play in Normal. If it's not a bug, then the only explanation is that you did already walk through the grave icon and therfore it would be 'empty' the second time, but that's not it, you would notice if you had your stuff returned already, so it must be a bug. I have never seen it but I think I lost the opportunity to recollect my stuff at least once after which I reloaded a save.

Only thing is reloading a manual save and lose a lot of progress maybe :(

Yeah it was a real pain to lose everything. I had a Save device, however there was nothing on the planet bothering me after spending over an hour in exploration. No bad weather, or animals. So I step away for two minutes & that's when the killer space crabs attacked.
