A blue sentinel appeared and I can't get rid of it...
Today I've mostly been tampering with pet colours to try and get the right colour of tiger.
Towards that end I've been going to and from the Anomaly a lot to use the Egg Sequencer...

Well, somewhere in this process, in spite of the fact that I have a mod that keeps sentinels from scanning me... I noticed there was a persistent sentinel shining its light on me constantly.
So I responded as I usually do and tried to shoot it... except it did no damage.
Then I noticed it was talking.... and blue.... and interactable.
And it appears to be called "Laylaps".

So, while wondering why the fŭck this insufferable nuisance of a sentinel is bothering me, I tried looking the name up on the wiki... and apparently this is an NPC tied to one of the Settlement quests.... which is absolutely baffling as I never did the Settlement quests.

I can only assume some insufferable troll on the Anomaly somehow foisted the damned thing off on me while I wasn't paying attention. It persists even in older saves when I try to reload them, so I can't simply reload before someone forced it on me.

Would anyone have any idea how to get rid of it? I mean either by legitimate means or editing the save file. I've tried looking in the save editor but I can't find anything corresponding to it and am at a loss regarding how I might get rid of the damned thing.
If I can't get rid of it.... I'll probably have to abandon the save file entirely as it is just that annoying.

Did you use the save editor to look at inventory slots that may not be activated yet?

I'd assume the Laylaps needs the item in inventory, if you don't see it then perhaps there is a way to hide it that may be seen with the editor.

He may be able to roll his pointer over the unopened storage slots. It works when looking for hidden open storage on the ships.

All the inventory slots are active... but I did check to see whether there were any suspicious entries in the inventory. But it turns out the last two entries in there were the Signal Booster and the Egg I'd been working on. I believe if anything had been added though, it must have been when I AFKed in the Anomaly and then reloaded my save.

Anyhow... it has flipped a switch somewhere in the game settings that I can't seem to find now... as [The Sentry] appears on all my playthroughs now. Even brand new ones. I did a totally clean install and deleted all my save data, settings data, deactivated all the mods and everything.... loaded up the game, started a new character.... and [The Sentry] was making beep-boop noises during suit initialisation and floating right next to me. I've got no choice but to try and do the quest that officially unlocks it and see if that gives me the control to make it go away.
It should have been named Karma rather than Laylaps .....

Sorry, really glad it's not me but for everyone else without the ghost of Laylaps haunting them it's quite funny.

I kinda wish people wouldn't laugh so openly at a gamebreaking bug which is genuinely ruining the game for me in its entirety, stressing me out and worsening my physical condition... but it isn't like I can do anything to stop it. I'll just sit here, hating Laylaps and the NMS community in equal measure, since both are driving me towards quitting, one way or another.

Wow.... I bet all of that typing is like plucking a grain of sand from your fresh grave with each tap of the keyboard. May I suggest some relaxing reading? "How To Win and Influence Friends"

No. No you may not. I was about to tell you what you may do... but I shouldn't have to accumulate yet more bans for the sake of another random troll.

Sigh.... you accumulate bans, because you are rude. Its clear you need some help, and there is no shame from that. No one here is your enemy, but you should understand being rude to people trying to help you out, like in the first comments of this post, is not a bright idea.
I have no desire to know or undertand your personal life, but I truly recommend you should relax a little bit more and stop this hated complex inside you. You take things too seriously and think too highly of yourself, also noticed you never think you are the wrong one, always the right one.

In any case, you obviously could comment how wrong I am and how stupid I am for writing something about yourself, in any case, I am just trying to help. There is no shame in needing some help to improve oneself. Relax a little bit more, appreciate the little help people are trying out, dont take things too seriously. The only enemy you have here is yourself. But this forum is not the place for it, some professional help would really improve your life. Hope things get better. Peace.

What a rude little jerk you are.
I'll choose to believe you're referring to MaruWeave, since that is the only context in which your post makes any sense whatsoever... though you really ought to make it more clear from the get-go. [/quote]

Let me make it clearer for you then: you're being a rude little jerk. Some nice folks are trying to help you and you're being really entitled about it. Some of those nice people, including MaruWeave, have continued to be nice and try to help you. Somehow you haven't become any less rude or entitled in the process.

Go forth with clarity and have a nice day.

My attempt to save edit in the Sentinel Flare, which nobody bothered to name and use that to send the sentinel away met with failure, as it simply respawns nearby.

Have you tried using a different device?

Behind the scenes I spent a lot of time trying to come up with a solution for you. I'm not succeeding.

Because you say it's affecting all your saves across all platforms, that tells me it's what NMS calls an "account" feature. If you go into Save Editor, you can see the Account accomplishments on the far right.

But laylaps isn't one of them. So no joy there.

I tried to investigate how to edit the JSON file to remove laylaps or reset the laylaps mission, but came up short. Some solutions that used to work appear no longer available in the most recent JSON format. Again, no joy.

Somehow your save editor gifting gave you something that makes the game THINK you finished the laylaps mission, and gifted you the little bugger, but you never actually finished the mission (I think?) So the save is corrupted, and the accomplishment is hard-coded into your account now. Now everytime you restart, he pops up. Without a functioning Flare in your inventory, there's no way to toggle him off.

If you can somehow reset that mission -- or delete its progress entirely -- I think that's the solution. I just can't figure out how to do it via the GoatFungus editor.
HOW DID YOU GET THAT IF YOU WEREN'T FOLLOWING THE SENTINAL UPDATE QUESTLINE?

Random troll? Pfffth..... I offered you some help as well. Some. Not much. But then you chose to attack everyone in your sight as usual. Yet, you keep typing up a storm knowing that there are a lot of nice people in this community. As though we have to help you and put up with you. No. We don't work for HG. Maybe you should stick with their help desk and hope for suggestions in a week or so.

You see.... You can keep getting banned and attacking everyone as a whole. But then when you come back. This community, that you hate, is perfectly willing to let it all slide and try to treat you with very undeserving dignity without expecting any apology. As long as you are willing to stop blaming everything and everyone for your problems. (No, you can't win them all but that doesn't mean you have to attack all in the process of trying to be heard.)

SO...... Open the editor on your recent save. Go to Known Products, select add, find the Sentinel Flare and Sentinel Flare (off) and add one.

You probably need to quit if you're getting this worked up and stressed over a video game and some people online. Go for a walk and get some fresh air, no normal person should be this stressed and have a "worsening physical condition" from a video game. It's not the game, it's you. Just quit and focus on getting some peace of mind or something.
