A blue sentinel appeared and I can't get rid of it...
Today I've mostly been tampering with pet colours to try and get the right colour of tiger.
Towards that end I've been going to and from the Anomaly a lot to use the Egg Sequencer...

Well, somewhere in this process, in spite of the fact that I have a mod that keeps sentinels from scanning me... I noticed there was a persistent sentinel shining its light on me constantly.
So I responded as I usually do and tried to shoot it... except it did no damage.
Then I noticed it was talking.... and blue.... and interactable.
And it appears to be called "Laylaps".

So, while wondering why the fŭck this insufferable nuisance of a sentinel is bothering me, I tried looking the name up on the wiki... and apparently this is an NPC tied to one of the Settlement quests.... which is absolutely baffling as I never did the Settlement quests.

I can only assume some insufferable troll on the Anomaly somehow foisted the damned thing off on me while I wasn't paying attention. It persists even in older saves when I try to reload them, so I can't simply reload before someone forced it on me.

Would anyone have any idea how to get rid of it? I mean either by legitimate means or editing the save file. I've tried looking in the save editor but I can't find anything corresponding to it and am at a loss regarding how I might get rid of the damned thing.
If I can't get rid of it.... I'll probably have to abandon the save file entirely as it is just that annoying.

You summoned it with the beacon in your inventory. Use the beacon again.

What? The Save Beacon? But I've carried around Save Beacons in my inventory for most of the game and this never happened before.

You have Laylaps in your inventory, deactivate him, and he becomes inactive.

more info about him here in the wiki

Unless it is invisible and can't be interacted with... then no. No I don't have anything of the sort. I've checked my Exosuit General, Technology and Cargo, my Starship General, Technology and Cargo, my Multi-Tool, my Freighter General, Technology and Cargo, and the two Storage Containers I use. There is nothing pertaining to the Laylaps thing anywhere there.

And the Save Beacon doesn't seem to have nor do anything new that might relate to this, so I'm guessing that was nonsense too.

And I'm not in any position to check for invisible Inventory Items hiding where I can't see them unless I know what the game ID is for this item you believe to be there.

Its over. You overcheated. You used the save editor and mods too much, now Laylaps will annoy you to the death because that's his true hidden purpose. The save is over. You shall be deleted.

Azure never mentioned it was the save beacon, while captain explained laylaps have its own beacon (flare). Usually it works in a way which you interact with it while Laylaps is active, to deactivate it. You claimed you didnt find it your inventory and that is the weird part of it.

I have confirmed that it has tainted my playthrough entirely, and even old saves from yesterday now spawn the blue sentinel.

My attempt to save edit in the Sentinel Flare, which nobody bothered to name and use that to send the sentinel away met with failure, as it simply respawns nearby.

Also my backups of my account file seem to have mysteriously vanished for some reason (maybe I Ctrl+X instead of Ctrl+C the last time I reverted to them). I'm pretty confident if I had those backed up, I could have got rid of it. Running out of ideas now...

[Edit]: Seems it influences my other playthroughs too. Even starting a completely new game from scratch instantly spawns Laylaps. SO I backed up my save files, deleted the account files, uninstalled the game and deleted any additional fields that were in the game folder. I'm going to try doing a completely clean install and hope that fixes the issue.... and if it doesn't, I never play NMS again.

dude, you are quite an unlikable ungrateful little person, aren't you? But I did mention it was a Flare, so you are again wrong. Sigh... Still, I hope you manage to find a way to fix that, in case you do, reply to this post so it could help another person in the future. That means being kind (in case you dont know). Have fun.

Bugger off, troll. Steam might have a p!ss-poor excuse for a block feature and won't stop you harrassing me, nor stop sending me notifications about it, but I'm not obligated to read your malicious nonsense.

it is a symbol of your conscience. you can't get rid of it. Why did you kill so many sentinels man?

What a rude little jerk you are.

That sounds insincere... but in case it isn't... I killed them because they're enemies... and also a nuisance... and because I can. I very much doubt the game is configured to inflict The Sentry on me for killing a certain number of sentinels though.

I'll choose to believe you're referring to MaruWeave, since that is the only context in which your post makes any sense whatsoever... though you really ought to make it more clear from the get-go.

I am taking you seriously and there have been other players reporting odd things like getting an egg that hatches a water predator even though they have no mods and it is useless to them.

So it sounds like a mod maker, or the user of a poorly designed mod, is griefing other players using the FU gifting. I would report it to HG. This may be the first scenario that will get somebody banned from the game, and get that stupid gifting dynamic changed.

That I can explain as I know exactly which mod causes non-standard animals to be captured as pets.

This... is not that. This is FAR weirder.

That would be nice... but I fear it has corrupted my entire account somehow.
As I'm discussing over on Reddit at this very moment... it has somehow fundamentally changed the game such that [The Sentry] is always present across ALL save games, ALL playthroughs... I've even done a complete clean install, deleted ALL save data, ALL account data, ALL game files, reinstalled from scratch, started the game in Offline Mode while ensuring none of the save data has been mysteriously replaced...... and [The Sentry] popped up in a completely new, unmodded, clean playthrough.

That is how weird this is. It has ruined the game itself for me...

The gifting is not even necessary in duping. I would have to agree if it's causing actual grief other than someone is being nice to someone. It's most likely a big culprit in Anomaly issues too with so many jumping in and out through resets. I know that there are other player interference at the Anomaly that should get players banned. But I'm not the Anomaly police.

Did you use the save editor to look at inventory slots that may not be activated yet?

I'd assume the Laylaps needs the item in inventory, if you don't see it then perhaps there is a way to hide it that may be seen with the editor.
