People with multiple ships; what do you use them for?
I have one exotic ship that I found a bit ago, and I've just slowly been maxing it out, I like the design, haven't found another ship I think is cooler. I don't see the point in having multiple ships since they are all sort of (sadly) mechanically similar in the way that they operate. I mean, I've never been in a situation where I was like "Boy howdy, I wish I had a (insert ship type) in this situation." For me, other than aesthetics, it matters not.

So, to people with multiple ships, what do you do with them, other than... have them?

Mechanically, there is no reason, but I like using different ships for different tasks.

They look good inside a freighter. Sometimes you just feel like flying a different ship. I keep finding ships i've never seen before. Like today for example I found a completely PINK solar ship and I haven't seen anything that color yet. Unfortunately i currently have 9 ships. What does your exotic look like? just curious.

Extra cargo...and always a scrap ship for galaxy jumping
A change of scenery.
SaD-82 Aug 26, 2022 @ 2:14pm
1 for yellow star jumps.
1 for red star jumps.
1 for green star jumps.
1 for blue star jumps.
1 for in system flights (shuttle service, so to speak - in important or base systems).
1 for cargo tasks (in base systems).
1 for bounty missions.
This is true for all my main saves.

In my expedition- or new-update-test-saves I don't bother with more than one ship.

Dude... I dont understand how that does not get extremely tedious to constantly swap ships all the time...

What does make you think I would need to swap ships constantly?
I'm no star system b*tch who needs to jump on every system I'm seeing - I take my time with every system I come across. Which leads to hours of flying one single ship until I would need to swap a ship.
And because of the quickmenu, switching is a matter of seconds.

Yeah, they kinda ruined it with the ability to upgrade the inventory, increased items per inventory slot, AND how similar/unbalanced the ships were in general (For example, Explorers were cheap and good at everything back in NEXT, so why use anything else?). I once did a mod back in version 1.77 where I made every class of ship serve a functional purpose and I set the prices accordingly. That was much more in line with what I expected. I can't be bothered to keep mods updated though, so I just live with the way it is.

Why do I have multiple ships?

I dunno man. I ask myself the same question. In fact, I recently deleted a bunch I never used. The Golden Vector is what I fly most of the time, with the others that I spared being around for nostalgia or that "maybe one day I will do something with this..." hoarding thing that we people are so good at.

Two heavier weight fighter ships (A grade) currently worth around 65 million each (will probably increase as I upgrade them). I keep one as a backup in case the other one dies! Both have good inventory space.

2 smaller fighters (both S grade). I've outgrown these really but I hold on to them anyway as I picked up some good X modules for them.

1 A grade fighter ship with quite a lot of inventory space - more like an Explorer. It's a good all-rounder and I use it for mining, recruiting other frigates and popping into new space stations from my freighter. It's solid enough to withstand a pirate attack.

1 Gek-style small hauler for carting all my building stuff around (S grade).

1 S grade Exotic just because I fancied an exotic.. I'll probably never ride it. maybe for fun later.

I'd like to get a Solar spaceship as never had one in this game yet.. but I'm waiting till an S class turns up!

I like the different aesthetics of Fighter ships, that's why I purchase a few!

Late game they give you a way to reduce your ever increasing credit balance so you don't cap out. No purpose now other then collecting ones that strike your fancy.

I guess technically you keep a beater ship for making galactic jumps so your regular ship(s) don't need to be repaired.

I build them out with specific uses in mind.

I have four ships at the moment. Two solars, a living ship, and a royal exotic. I should probably claim my Golden Vector, but I just couldn't think of a situation where I'd use it. The living ship is fully expanded, it's my general purpose ship. It's weird and kind of fun to fly. I just scrapped an explorer I was using to galaxy hop. My solars are both piratey type ships, I have them equipped with different weapon loadouts to change up how I'm dogfighting. My royal exotic is kinda showy looking and is more of an all-rounder for when I think I'll need high shields.

One of my solars is the Hadachig OB2. If you go to the portal coordinates in that first picture, you can pick one up yourself. It pulls double duty as my "pimpmobile". If I want to impress someone, I show up in that. It's outfitted as a long range burst damage ship.

I have 1 for hauling Activated Indium. 1 loaded with base building supplies. 1 or 2 I actually fly. The rest are just for collecting.

A Living Ship for nearly everything except: Exotic with all equipment in Tech for jumping through Black Holes and an Explorer for 3200+ ly jumps without using the Freighter. : )

Fun fact, the blue jumper can jump to all systems.

A fan wing haulers for general run around.
A big ball hauler with no techs for storing stuff.
A Large pod explorer for long jumps
A Golden vector for space battles (somewhat moot because my fan wing hauler does just fine)
A Living ship, a Solar Ship, and a Royal Exotic for for show.
