Don't care for these ship shields.
I love the new Outlaws update. Cool stuff all around.
Very epic seeing freighters jump into the system in the sky above you on a planet.
The expedition is enjoyable. Ship squadrons, cool.

But these giant glowing ship bubbles during space battles, are kind of gaudy.
They are just visually a bit much.
There's already a lot going on with the HUD, enemy ship's health bar, flashy and shiny effects from weapon fire, explosions, etc.
The large ship shield bubble just really kills it for me.
Would be nice to even just be able to turn that off as a visual option setting or something.
Like, keep the orange bar above the enemy ship health, I just don't want to have to see a space bubble flashing around every time I fire at a ship.

I have to agree that they're a bit too much. A small shimmer outline around the ship is all I'd want to really see, or see nothing until there's an impact and show a small effect only where the shield is being hit. It's something I would toggle off if I could. I'd also turn off some of the excessive effects and the parallax menu and UI movement.

NMS has always had a more cartoonish/arcade art-style.

If I am hankerin' for realism, I fire up Star Citizen for a few hours/days/weeks.

These shields are the main factor of the new space combat now, also all weapon functionality has been changed, you first have to disable shields with special weapons then use other weapons which are more adapted to destory the ship hull, that's all new in Outlaws. There is a nice video explaining the mechanics:

I'm not concerned about how shields work or "the realism".
They just visually look awful.

Like Macdallan stated, a more subtle visual effect or the option to turn it off would be a nice change.
Just expressing the complaint is all.

I'm sure they will have a mod for that. A lot of mods reduce the visual clutter.

It's like they are flying in a giant hamster ball. :steamhappy:

With every update that unique 70s sci-fi look that was practically the only redeeming quality about the game on release just melts away.
