Question about Exotic Ships At Space Station
So I finally saw an Exotic Ships at a space station. I didn't buy it because I needed my current ship. So will that exotic ship come back and how does this work anyway?

Exotic Ships are all S type. That makes them very rare UNLESS they fall into the category of "First Wave Exotic". All this special category contains is ships that show up in the first wave of ship spawns after you reload on the space station. (Wait for 5, it may look like there's only 4, but there are 5, trust me). Basically: land on station, get out of ship to make autosave, reload autosave and wait for 5 ships to land. If you don't see it, it's not a first waver.

If you test and discover you do not have a first wave exotic, get off the station. Don't even mess around with that noise. Get yourself to a trading post planet-side. You have a much better view area from on top of a trading post than you'll ever get in a space station. Put down a save beacon and manually reload until that first wave of ships to the post contains your exotic.

Each system contains exactly one exotic. It always spawns in S class. It will have a random very low chance of appearing at any trading post, on any planet in that system.

Yea, sometimes I noticed the space station doesn't even have any ships landing in.

Wait are you saying that same exotic ship will respond on all the planets in that system? That sounds great! I've been to this system but never saw one until now. Thanks!

Yes I am. I've been ship hunting since I think Beyond... maybe earlier. Any rando trading post in that system will have an equal chance of getting you the exotic. I almost exclusively use them to ship hunt because you'll notice that all of the ship spawns tend to be in the exact same one or two places every reload. So, I just immediately look there and pop the analysis visor to check.

Okay that does make more sense now cuz I remembered last week (this is week 3) I saw this long nose hotrod s class fighter at this space station for 3mil. Later I saw the same s class ship on a trading post but it was 18mil. It came back a few times but mostly c class.

...yes...eventually it will...

a) save and reload on space station then wait...
b) find a trade post on a planet in the system (non-hazardous is easiest) get on top of the building and plop down a save beacon next to you, save and reload...then wait 5-10mins...if no joy....reload...and wait again

PS. now the 'kicker'...when you were on the space station and the exotic came in....as long as you owned less than the max number of ships (and had the funds) you could have bought it and then just walked back to the ship you came in with (cos it will still be sitting there) got in and out to both make it your primary again and also create an autosave (locking in your purchase).

the exotic will still be sitting there but it's now one of yours...you can leave the station and it will show up in your summon ships menu and on your freighter.

PS. there are ways to get a ship without paying for it (glitch) but that's another tale

You can also call in your freighter, after leaving a station for the first time (after a reload), few ships will spawn and land on it. Same for the NPC freighters, once you get close to them, ships spawn, some will land.

They do, although that's kind of like waiting for an exotic to spawn at a space station instead of doing the reloads. It's a bit on the slow side. If you love exotics, though, best thing you can do is memorize the sound they make when they land. It's unique. This week I was building out two Salvaged Frigate Module farms in Eissentam, (which requires buying a metric F-ton of distress beacon maps), when I heard this beauty landing:
Orange / Gold Royal Type 7 Exotic with Single Thruster and Side Boosters.
That was the reward for checking out a weird noise. When I submitted it to Coordinate Exchange, I double checked by going back to a trading post in that sytem, since I knew it wasn't a first waver. Three hours later, I see my ship again. It can take awhile, but the trading post reload dance is still head and shoulders more reliable than just waiting it out on a station.

+ if you have a Capital Ship (big Freighter) your new ships will appear there if you keep your original space ship for your current game play, or your original ship will appear there if you switch to the new space ship.

We have better luck hunting for ships in a trading post of that system.

Btw, Exotic ships are not S-Class. Exotic is a ship category, like transporter, fighter, sun, etc; and it will be S-Class. There are S-Class ships that are not Exotic.

Trust me, you will identify a Exotic one by just looking at it.

You can have more than one ship. Current limit is 12.

If it isn't a 1st wave exotic I think your best bet is to just go to the trade post and keep reloaading after the wave of ships land

Used to be S Class ship hunting was the core of NMS once you got up and running. Ah... the good old days...

You'd hear a particular ship sound and sprint for the landing decks in hopes of catching that crazy alien pilot down to buy their ship... You used to stand around on top of your current ship for a better view of those landing ships...

You even used to park all your ships but one on the planet-side port of calls so only one slot was open just to aggravate all those alien pilots wanting to land. Hah!

Yup... the good old days...

I wasn't here for the "good old days"....but I did recently stumble upon a crashed Exotic. On a planet in a system with a poor economy. I'm guessing this is a rare thing. Personally, I felt it justified the many hours I spent running around on that planet just because I thought it was pretty and I wanted to find all the plants and minerals on it. Turns out, I found an exotic ship but still haven't found that last freaking mineral...

Anyway, it's a blue one with gold detailing, and it has a really long, pointy nose. So I named it Needlenose because I have a habit of naming ships after Transformers. :)

Just reload and hang out at that particular station if you want that particular exotic. That being said, EVERY star system spawns one exotic. And they all vary according to the numerical seed or ID of that star system. Some exotics come in first waves, others later, seemingly randomly. But they will come. Normally, if you are waiting for an exotic, the easiest way to pass the time is to scrap ships while you wait. Then when the exotic comes in, buy it but don't scrap it.

PS: the wording of your post suggests you don't know you can have multiple ships. Or you have already filled up your quota of ships already. The max is abt 6 ships. You add to your ship collection by simply specifying you want to "claim" rather than "exchange" the ship. You will only permanently say bye-bye to your current ship if you "exchange" it or scrap it by mistake.

If you have already filled up your "garage space" limit of ships, you will only be able to exchange with a new ship. Be sure to scrap all the broken crashed ships you may have claimed early on as they have a tendency to fill up your space fast if you can't call them and don't have a freighter (where they all sit around like cars in a garage).
