Have not really paid close attention recently, but in the past there did appear to be a trigger for frequent pirate stops based on the quality of some cargo you carried. I have a feeling they got rid of that function to save on processing and increase challenge.
Even when it appeared to be working, you would still get a pirate encounter if the time limit between them had been exceeded. Especially in Survival and above, you are almost guaranteed a pirate encounter in every new system.
it would be cool, if they could pull up on you with capital ships, instead of it being 2-3 ships that you'll drop in 30 seconds flat and move on with your business, not counting if you got backup from recruited pilots
In Skyrim, why would anyone attack the Dragonborn? Because they don't know that you are the main character.
Pirates scan every 1-3min is annoying crap.
In my opinion, when you have reputation of "pirates killer" they should not to attack anymore. Instead you need to scan them and jump to them if you want a battle.
If I see a heavily armed person I'm not going to probably try and steal their dirt, especially if I can just go to any planet to get said dirt.
You're not thinking about what Pirates actually are. Be it water or space. They are after whatever they need and can happen to pillage as well, not what is selling on the marketplace.
Ferrite Dust: Why the hell do you want it? Why do you keep carrying it around if you don't need it? Exactly. Why would a Pirate waste their time gathering resources when they can just take them from you who already did their work for them, and take everything else you have as a bonus?
Wiring Harness: Self explanatory - they do their own repairs and upgrades. Same reasons as above on acquiring parts.
Pretty much the same for any 'simple' resource you might be carrying. They are Pirates and you are an 'easy mark' that did all the work they don't want to mess with. They have huge egos that will always be a better fighter than the most notorious person out there in their mind.
Hope that helps :)
My current grief is the fighter squadron constantly getting in my way and never really doing much in the first place. I need to disable them because they literally get in my way of fire and I shoot them so many times in battle. I have to stop firing at the enemy because the squadron tries to stay in formation while I'm going nuts in battle and they just keep coming in between my guns and the enemy. They won't fire, it seems, unless they are happy with their formation which is constantly needing adjustments.
You never tried to build a huge base out of stone parts and you never tried to repair a broken ship, do you?
Those things are valuable!
I would murder for those!
Like a pirate!
Yo-ho-f*cking-ho!
Shiny!
It's completely nonsensical to attack a heavily armed ship for cargo that's worth pennies when you can scan what it's carrying before committing.
There's a ton of barely-armed C-rank haulers flying between stations and trade posts all the time, why in the world would you go after the heavily modded fighter with more weapons than your entire squadron put together?
It makes sense (well, kinda, for a pirate) to risk that battle for a huge payoff.
It makes absolutely zero sense to take that risk for something you can pick up in less than 5 minutes on any planet.
There's also no point in scanning for valuable cargo if you're going to attack no matter how little it's actually worth. It's simply lazy implementation.
So, by your logic, pirates should never attack you.
But it really breaks my sense of immersion when i get a message that they've detected my less than 200 ferrite dust as "valuable cargo" and decided that yep, that's a treasure worth risking almost certain death for.
For you it's just dirt. For someone who can't mine because he doesn't have any equipment or he just don't want to be a miner, ferrite dust is very valuable as it is needed to build metal plates or as a reagent for creating minerals by refining gas (or other minerals). Which then can be used to repair ships or weapons or any other tech.
Try using other perspectives than just your own. In game and in general.
