How to get dihydrogen fast
Been playing this game for over a year, still haven't figured out a FAST way to get dihydrogen. Since it's not minable with a mineral extractor and can't be refined from anything other than dihydrogen jelly, which also can't be created with dihydrogen. Has anybody cracked the fast way of getting it? As you can't craft life support gel without it, and LSG is the best way to keep yourself alive in the survaval and permadeath modes as there aren't 9999 slots for dioxite.

Find a 3 star economy star system that sells lots of jellies and build a base near a trading post on one of the planets. If the system drops off your teleport list you can still get back to your base and from there to the space station.

Wait around a space station and accost every single NPC pilot until you find one that sells dihydrogen jelly. throw it in refiner and voila PILES of H2.

edit: get your personal backpack refiner ASAP.

edit-2: 1 jelly = FIFTY dihydro.

I keep a stack of LSG in my Cargo at all times. Just buy it at any (all) Space Stations. It's very inexpensive.

When you first start out, mine about 80 dihydrogen. Turn it into jelly. Then, put it in the refiner. Repeat the above. Each time you refine jelly you get 50 dihydrogen. Since it takes 40 per jelly, you gain 10 each time. After a few minutes, you will have more then enough to get started.

I've taken to refining it into jelly and then back into dihydrogen, and back into jelly, ad infinitum. I have a gain of 200 dihydrogen per stack of 10 jelly.

Jelly for jollies! Di-hydrogen refiner on my freighter. Takes about 4 secs to convert 10 DHJ into 500 DH.

I just put a suffix Dihy on systems that sell Jellies. I buy the entire stock when I pop in. Same with Tritium. Suffix Trit and buy the entire stock. If you leave to one other system, they restock...but technically 1 stop should keep you supplied for quite awhile.

Have you notice since Outlaws the Trit stock is 1/5th what it used to be?

actually I mentioned this process in the first message, it's painfully slow.
I wouldn't call 1 jelly per 3-4 minutes "more than enough"

it's super slow

Thanks to everyone who adviced to buy the jellies in the rich economy systems, haven't thought of that. Indeed it's possible then. It's just very frustrating how this mineral is super common but at the same time can't be mined with an extractor at all.
Maybe Hello Games should include it as a minable element like the others. At least on red or green star systems or something.

Some of the stations that carried trit no longer do so and the jellies are lower. The station in my screen shot used to be my one stop shop for both to make frigate fuel. It used to sell 150 jellies and 5,000 trit. Now it carries a reduced number of jellies and no trit at all.

The fastest way is to buy and to process jelly into dihydrogen in refiner.
Everything else (as harvesting dihydrogen on airless planets even with exocraft laser) is much slower.

You don't refine di-hydrogen into jelly, you craft it. Crafting jellies takes a moment. You then put the crafted jellies into the refiner which also takes a moment. Many get this step wrong.

Agree...

It doesn't take long to build a large stack at all. Make the jelly in suit inventory and then refine it back to DiHydrogen. The net is 20% per cycle.

As far as the Life Gel, Never seem to be without it just from finding it while exploring. Even then Oxygen is also almost over abundant without much effort.
