Texture Issues
Hi All,

Not sure what the problem is, but I often have texture issues. After a few minutes of gameplay, my textures seem to bug out. Everything looks horrible. I have spent time changing graphical setting to rectify this issue however the bad textures always seem to return after playing for a few minutes. It really ruins the experience and happens quite often.

The only "fix" is to restart the game however the bad textures return quite quickly. Not sure if there is anything else that I do to fix the problem.

Change textures to Standard, apply, go back to the game, go back to the menu, change textures to whatever you used. It seems to reset something and the textures goes back to what they should be. For a moment only though, the issue will come back.

yeah I spoke too soon, the experimental version didn't help. Yeah thanks for this, I have been doing this just to make some areas a little more bearable

Rats. Please report that this issue is still happening to HG directly via their zendesk. This is the second texture memory issue to be included in fixes since Outlaws so something is still mucked up

This issue has been in the game for years, and only seems to get worse. HG really needs to take this issue and other bugs more seriously and do some serious under-the-hood tune ups. It is beyond old by this point.

This is a known bug that happened with the updated that added Terrain Tessellation. If you disable Tessellation you wont get error in terrain textures. The only way to properly fix this is to use a mod called FineLOD. Hello Games should be more then aware of the issue, I've personally reported nearly 30 times with screenshots and video to the zen desk but for whatever reason, don't seem to give a f* about this particular issue thats been happening for 3 years now. Its actually one setting in one file only that causes this.

The issue we've been talking about is a new one. In other recent threads on this forum and on reddit you'll see that people have been reporting a new issue since Outlaws. I have Tessellation off and use Fine LOD as I've said in this thread. The issue is not with ground textures, it's with character models, space station interiors, flora and fauna. Running Fine LOD does not deal with these new issues

I have disabled tessellation and the issue is not only the terrain but buildings, npcs, ships, caches, flora and fauna as Upholder98 mentioned. To put it simply, its pretty much every texture in the game. Changing to the experimental branch seems to have delayed the muddy textures by a few jumps but after a while everything becomes a giant mess.

However I have not installed the Fine LOD mod, but it sounds like it wont help with the texture issues I am experiencing.

Since then I have also posted on Zendesk and lets see what happens. For now I am doing what Underd0g suggested. When everything becomes an ugly smear of textures, I go to the graphics settings switch to standard then ultra again and that allows for a few more jumps before I have to do it again.

Its hella annoying but lets see what HG has to say before I move on. From what I have read on the web, it appears this problem has been around for a good while, albeit not this bad. so there is some hope that they did an oopsie.

I will update this thread when I hear back from HelloGames.

Does it affect ships, too? Just in the past day I've noticed ships look kinda muddy:

The latest nvidia driver, released a few days ago, doesn't seem to be working well with my system. I tried to revert to the previous driver but the newest archived driver is from December.

Bummer. I haven't updated so that's not the cause of my issue. I almost wish it was

Just to report back. I downloaded and played the latest patch today and fingers crossed, it seems to have fixed my issues. I was monitoring VRAM usage and it wasn't jumping up like it did prior to this patch. Played for 1.5 hours teleporting and warping around, which would have killed the texture quality before but not today.
