Ignoring sentinels after cargo scan... works?
So I was scanned three times, now, by sentinels for having illegal cargo on board. In two cases, I just headed away from the sentinels at max speed, and the sentinels dropped off. In the third case, I managed to enter a space station and the wanted level disappeared.

Can you just lazily ignore sentinels and not get attacked?

Yes that works. There's also a tech you can install that blocks the scan.

If you have a freighter with a trade station, it should also sell it there. Probably.

I have that installed and it didn't work. Tho my goods were in the general inventory, not the cargo. Is that why?

I would expect it to work no matter where its stored, but maybe someone that uses this tech will chime in. I see no need for it really.

Aye, needs to be in your ship cargo. You can also keep relics in your inventory and it gives you an option to "bribe" the sentinels. They'll take one of whatever was scanned as well as the relic for whichever species' system you're in.

Sigh, can we keep this on topic with my question?

I'm asking if ignoring the warning means it just "goes away" -- which seems odd at least. I'm not talking about bribing them with the scan defense thing. I didn't ask at all about blocking.

It seems like a bug if all you need to do to avoid a fight is simply ignore it.

[Folks, if you want to ask a different question, start a new post and don't hijack the thread.]

You have to run away as described in you OP. Next time just sit there and wait. See what happens.

your question was answered in the first reply. Yes, you can simply run away.

You can either run for it or fight the first wave and then run for it. I am not sure if the first wave is a set number of interceptors, but just did that it was one. I took it out and there is a short period where you can boost away from the scene.

I was near the station so just went in there versus trying to boost away. I was nervous about getting caught again and only being farther away from the station.

Yes, completely ignoring them is a valid and often preferable response. You could always outrun the sentinels, even before the Sentinel update. Running was always an option.

Ignoring them and continuing on your way is also always an option, (assuming you choose to do so early enough that you don't get swarmed). Like if you're hunting freighter pods, killing one will get the first sentinel interceptor to spawn in. If you just ignore this spawn, it'll shoot you occasionally, but you can continue killing pods as much as you want and you won't get additional spawns. Your shields will need recharges, but this happens much less than if you have increased your wanted level and have eight interceptors plus their freighter on you.

Haven't done any smuggling but I did buy some illegal goods at a pirate station once and just teleported to the space station and sold them..
Dirak2012 Apr 25, 2022 @ 9:39am
Yes, you can just run, and no it's not a bug. That's simply how space battles work.
Or you can bypass it entirely with some teleporting.
The fact is that the game doesn't really have the mechanics to make smuggling interesting or dangerous.

you do also have to actually manually trigger it during the scan, too...

I tried to use the scan blocker. Hit the quick menu and couldn't find the blocker. How does one trigger the block?

yeah... quick menu then all the way left to the cog (Utilities menu) and then to the right after "Scan for Trade Outpost" and before "Switch Starship View"... gotta be quick on those buttons...
