Can Save Edit allow you to use the legacy building structures?
Or is there another way to be able to use legacy structures other than just play an old save?

The reason I'm asking is I like building my main base at a location with nice views. That's usually on top of a hill. I decided to use wood in a new save, because it has the best glass options out of all the options if you don't have access to legacy structures.

But not if you place a wall beneath it, in which case it changes, and turns the clear glass to something ugly.

Or maybe perhaps there is another option that looks ugly when you build it, but looks better once you place a wall under it?

I really like the more straight-forward means of building in the new version, but absolutely detest the new structures appearance. And don't even get me started about wiring.

The wall in the middle has a wall underneath, while the other two do not.

Edited Note:
Nevermind. I placed the identical structure above the one that changed, and it changed back:

So maybe I can figure it out. But boy, is this a pain.

Edit aside, yes. The save editor can be used to unlock all of the legacy building parts from before the (adaptive refresh), and I still use them frequently in my builds for some variation.

Yes, they are in the "discoveries" tab "known products". Click add parts and go through the list. They are in a couple different locations of the list.

Oh yeah, the save editor was just updated.

Ooo... thanks for the heads up. Been waiting to merge my expedition save's inventory into my main.

Thanks much for the responses! I've never been moved to use a mod in NMS until now.

But I really detest the way building textures change (although everything else except the wiring fiasco, I like just fine), as if the devs working on them don't realize that having textures change because of adjacency is in any way superior to having the ability to place exactly the texture you actually want, instead of believing that what they like is what players would like.

Yeah, I've never used mods, so don't remember the proper name of it, but I am considering it now for the first time.

I don't blame you. The "new" parts are nice and all, but leaving the legacy parts fully accessible would've been optimal.

EDIT: Now I'm just waiting for MBINCompiler to update so I can rebuild my mod that allows the underwater "tube" hallways to be built on land. The things we do for aesthetics.

This is the save editor you want, if you decide to do it.

Thanks much for the link! I'm still on the fence about using a mod, but considering the fact the hoops I had to go through to fix the the bug with not getting the first pirate map in Expedition 6 without it, and now finding what a pain it is to use the new textures, has pretty much convinced me that the mod is worthwhile.

Just keep a backup of your save and you're all good. Play the game how you want.

well, they are but only in saves that have them and then only the ones they had when the change went in... and yeah, i do understand what you are saying... all saves should still be able to get them... i agree...

oh! are you talking about the vertical glass tube? i can't get it to attach if part of it is out of the water... as a result, i can't stack on top of it unless i use a regular one but then we get flooding so...

if your mod allows one to build the vertical glass tube attached under water and above water, i'm interested... the question is how i install it on linux running steam and proton... i guess manually but irdk...

Note, though, that any legacy parts may not have legacy color schemes.
Hellsmoke Apr 22, 2022 @ 5:14am
By the way you can stop the textures from changing by manually placing those parts on top of another, without snapping. Takes some playing around with it but it can be done.

Just to be clear, this is not a mod. You do not put it in the game. It is an external editor to add or remove items from the game.

Yep, it works. Personally I think disabling the legacy parts on new saves was a bad decision. Mixing and matching the legacy parts and new parts can produce awesome results, and the legacy parts have better (imo) color options than the new parts.
