What? You don't need to play the game either but I do enjoy most of it. You don't need credits or nanites or to leave the 1st planet. Part of playing the game for me is trying to upgrade my tech. Hello Games has given us ONE path to do this for freighters and that path is a terrible game design. Anytime you have to do the same thing over and over and over again ad nauseam it's bad.
The more important question: Did you have fun exploring the freighter? If yes - time well spent. If not - then you know that you don't have to explore another one. Which means: You not only got three hyperdrive upgrades (three more than you had before...) but you got life-experience aswell. Good trade.
If it takes you more than 20 minutes to clear a derelict freighter your doing it wrong.
No I didn't have fun. That's the point of my post. Perhaps I wasn't clear. I don't finding grinding fun. Why do you think we can't buy them? Is there a lore reason? We can buy upgrades for ship, exosuits, and multi-tools. Any reason you can think that we wouldn't be able to for freighters? I mean the 1st few times I did derelict freighters they were fun. Cool new horror mechanic. But HG should not force players to do 50 (or more) derelict freighter runs if they want to upgrade their freighter. Yes I know you can VERY OCCASIONALLY get them from down crashed freighters and nexus missions but that would take so much longer.
You guys have no idea what you are talking about. It takes me 30 to 40 seconds to get to the end of this freighter. My gripe is that you have to do it 50+ times (the same damn thing over and over) before it gives you enough to fully upgrade your freighter. Do you all just not upgrade your freighters?
To answer all of those questions:
Any reason for not being able to buy those upgrades anywhere in the galaxy? Besides other than a potential future update to adress this issue - no, I can see no ingame/lore reason.
But if we end on this point we could argue, too, that there is no ingame/lore reason to upgrade your freighter at all. It was just introduced in an update - so, there's potential for this.
Don't get me wrong:
I understand the core principle of your complaint - but just look at it from this side: Consider those freighter upgrades as end game stuff. As something you have to put time and effort into to fully flesh out the last bit of gear in your possession (or at least the biggest one). Some things are worth working towards (even if it will cost you this much time - either by doing freighters in space/on ground or by doing nexus missions).
If you reach a point where it isn't feasible anymore to you to do those things, then the rewards aren't worth the hassle anymore and you will feel good about skipping them (until, in a future update, you could acquire them in other ways possible - maybe).
It all boils down to: You can do everything you want to do, but you don't have to.
And that's a good thing in my book.
Yeah you make a good point. I'm just glad it's over and I never have to do it again. I live on my freighter. I don't really have planet bases. I love to wander and explore in this game and getting 4200+ light year range on my freighter is important to me for that reason.
You've picked a rare item and made it your goal to get three of them over one continuous effort. You're allowed to do that, and there are people who love doing that, but if you aren't one of those people, you can do something else. Freighter upgrades are a nifty bonus, but hardly required. And if you want them anyway, you can do a few freighter runs per session until you reach your goal, so you don't burn out on one gameplay option.
Edit: However there are A-class upgrades.

freighter base building parts: lockers, crates etc..
other upgrades: combat, trade, exploration, mining, fleet beacon and fuel eff. (all increase you freighter and/or frigate fleet effectiveness)
you've run it for 2hrs...below is true pain (all NMS ocd completionists know this nightmare)

for me, the most important freighter upgrade is the matter transport... then the exocraft room... i add the others as i get to them but those two are both targets i actually aim for... i've never not been able to call my freighter to me so i travel to different star systems in my star ship so it has the better warp capabilities most of the time...
it has only been in Exp 6 that i've finally got a freighter that can do 2000+ly jumps... i needed that at one point in my play because my star ship couldn't jump that far... i fixed that pretty quickly, though
I got all those during the 2 hours as well.
I don't understand.
That makes no sense.
You literally did this to yourself.
No one needs whatever item you searched for.
Also, there should be plenty of ways to upgrade your freighter's warp capability.
Also, it's not even possible to grind Derelict Freighters unless you have an insane amount of money to constantly buy the upgrading costs.
