Leviathan pet
On a random planet I found this dragon like creature that would be awesome to own as a pet:

Unfortunately, it just flies away as you get closer. I even captured it with the bio-dome trick, but there's no way you can feed it and adopt it.
Does anyone know if this kind of creature simply can't be added as companion? Have you ever found something similar and actually managed to feed them?

Some kinds can't be captured. High flying-birds, some ground-crawling critters, also those that move fast under the land's surface and periodically jump out.

The thing you show is in the first category - flying bird (doesn't look like one, but it's similar in that you can't have it as a pet).

Oh that sucks. SInce I got the sandworm companion with the Emergence expedition, I thought you could add those kinds. Too bad, would have been awesome to ride that thing

legally, no.

But from modded egg by some players, you "might" get something similar.

the Sand worm is a special... like the Expedition 1's "Golden Vector" star ship, Expedition 2's "Normandy" (yes, from Mass Effect), and the "Biological Horror" (AKA "Fiend") from Expedition 3... you can ride both, the Sand worm and the Fiend when you have one as a companion/pet...

the first three expeditions were rerun as "Redux" just before Expedition 4 was brought out... this gave folks a chance to (re)run them if they missed or didn't complete them the first time around... the redux were modified slightly so they could be completed within the allotted shorter time period... we don't know if HG plans to rerun any more or all of the existing expeditions again...

what "law"?? NMS is a sandbox game with no competition or scoring... there's no anti-cheat and the game doesn't care if you "save edit" or not...

Ok so the sandworm companion is a unique reward for the expedition and you can't get anything like that in the game. Got it

Wrong. If you've done that expedition (4th it was, I believe), you can claim one worm egg in any of your saves from Quicksilver Companion @ Anomaly. New, old, any save.

If a player has this egg, he/she can hatch it and wait until it can lay one itself, then he/she can give anyone that egg in multiplayer game. Ask on anomaly if someone can give you one.

someone might also claim it in a save they're going to throw away... then they can give it to any other player they choose... no need to hatch it or wait for it to lay an egg... of course, there's always the save editor, too... you can just give yourself one (or several) if you want... no need to even visit the QS guy...

Players/Moders (Who know what there doing) use tools such as "NMS PCBANKS Explorer-Unpacker" to extract .pak files from the game and edit them among other tools.
As far as i know, all creatures in NMS can be messed around with and modded. The trick is knowing how to and what to do.
If you go to one of "Captain Steve and Meogi's" (on Youtube) egg giveaways, you will see imported, Modded creatures that have been changed and put back into the game....

It's one of those things that work only for you and noone else can see your mods, right? And when you give something to another player, he/she will see someting different, I believe. Or you will get one of these red messages about incompatibility. Am I wrong?

Nope....EVERYONE in-game will see the pet as it is...as in the new changes.
Like is said, take a look at one of Captain Steve's / Meogi's vids on Youtube called "Egg giveaways".
I have a few of there eggs, some of creatures that are in-game that you can't tame and some of creatures that have been modded.... all players seem them are they are as all changes to those creatures use body parts that are in-game BUT used in a way the game does not generate naturally.
