Has anybody found a genuinely good, flat sandy planet with - now I know I'm being knit-picky but I might as well hope - a low amount of native lifeforms, low fauna, low amount of massive rocky outcroppings and no water?
I've found a few desert worlds, which aren't sand worlds, but they've always had water or have been too red, or too blue or green or some other thing.
I'm looking for a proper sand planet.
Has anyone found anything like this? I want to atleast know its possible, I've searched for about 4 hours today, constantly jumping, using tons of resources and I'm not sure its going to pay off with how many resources I've poured into warp fuel (around 28 now).

Incase anyone asks, I'm in the starter galaxy - I've only recently started playing again (I still have a save from 2018 lol) within the last 3 days.
Would being here have any sway on whether or not I find the type of planet I'm looking for? Because if I have to travel out far then I'll just stock up on fuel, get as many good hyperdrive upgrades as I can and go out as far as possible.

I don't think such thing exist.
The engine will always spawn plants and rock formations. And actual sand isn't a thing.

Are you sure? Many people have said they've seen them, but theyre all from 2017ish.
Also I've heard about sandworms and stuff, I assume they spawn on desert/sand/justgenerallyhot worlds?
I wouldn't mind rocky sand worlds with vegetation of course, but I'd still prefer a proper dune experience if possible

flat no but found some awesome desert planets

Sandworms don't actually have much to do with sand. The just fly out of the ground pass over your head and disappear at the distance.

Man you got some crazy pictures, they look great lol
Do you roughly at all remember if there are any tricks to finding deserts? I think when you're looking at systems the lower the number the hotter? Or is it all just blind luck after that?

Skyworms sound terrifying lmao

Moons won't have water, so you can find that at least. All deserts will have plants and animals, but the frequency will vary. I don't think it can vary enough that you'll find a large vista without any, though. Airless worlds will have no animals, very few plants, and (in my experience) fewer big stones, but they generally will look more like the moon than like a desert.

The good point about Sandworms is they won't eat you so you can't AFAIK die that way.

They can toss you 1000's of unit's into the air, the hard landing after the plummet from that height kills you.

(If you don't panic it's survivable but a bit of a shock when it happens).

I have never seen anything like that in 1700+ hours. Technically, some planet like that may exist but it would be extremely rare.

I did find a planet that had the largest and most robust cave system I had ever found. The caves were so large that a lot of it had weather going on inside. You could easily fly a couple of ships around in the caves in many places.

Until I saw it, I would have thought that was highly unlikely. But it does exist. Maybe your vision exists somewhere out there, but it might take a lifetime to find it.

After 108 hours I finally found my first desert planet lmao :D
Its quite the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ place, but it'll forever hold a special place in my heart.
Its a shame that you cant have a proper sandy-desert planet though, real shame.
I have seen lots of pictures of "sandy" planets and "proper" desert planets, but again, theyre all from 2017ish and they seem to be really early in development, my guess is that they removed them from the engine because from what I can see every single planet needs the bare basics to survive and/or repair your ship.
I came close once. A yellow desert world with reddish flora lacking water (solar vines blended into the background. The solar vines were in a biodome the planet actually grew cactus flesh.) It still had many mountains and rocky outcrops though. The climate wasn't all that bad either. My heat hazard protection would kick on in the middle of the day and my cold hazard protection would kick on in the middle of the night but the rest of the time hazard protection was off.

I'm not sure if that planet still exists that way since I found in right after NEXT. (2018 iirc)

Desert moons may help.

I found this planet in the Rerasmutul galaxy (Galaxy 18, you can find the star cab discord server where people can help you go there easily via piggyback) and I found this barren planet like the one you mentioned, unfortunately there is some fauna, but there is no water there and some rock formations : https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Racusse-Tigor_XI

I know I'm like 2 years late but hope this helps lol
