How can i find predators?
Is there an easy way to find predators? I have been to lots of planets, but for some reason I never seem to be able to find a predators, though there are lots of missions about them. can I somehow recognise planets that have a predator?

When you scan the creature check what food type it prefers. If it is something like meat its a predator. Predators are also usually solitary and not found in groups. You can also tell by watching the moving dots. If you see one dot being chased by another and the front dot disappears the remaining dot is a predator.

The six legged cats and raptors are usually predators, even when they don't attack you.

When a predator is hunting you, little red footprint icons appear in your peripheral screen area. That is the easiest way to find them: let them find you. They are territorial, so if you are in their zone, they will automatically hunt you.

If you go to this planet in Euclid, there is a predator right by the relic portal. When you get to planet via portal, use your surveyor to point to the nearest electrical hotspot (it's right by the portal). That is the territory of one small predator:

I have a base with predators and it is an Agressive sentinels planet, all of them want to kill me. Look at these planets, with Gravitino balls. Also some of the creatures become aggressive/red when they see you fighting agains sentinels. Don't know why, just an experience.

Not all predators are stupid enough to attack you either. The things that look like giant hermit crabs with gem encrusted shells are often predators. Anything that looks like T-rex, most feline and canid shaped fauna.

I think the aliens in derelict freighter missions count as predators when killed.

Problem is that i recognise all these things, but in all the planets i find, I rarely find predators. Have like 20 bases and only one of these has predators, but they are scarce on that planet, and i have like 20 missions currently that want a predator, and it is so time-consuming to find one by trial and terror. However, if there apparently is no quick way to find predators, I will rename that base to predator-country and get my predators there; real grind this

Most if the creatures with a wolf head or a cat head are predators. Most T-Rex / raptor type creatures are also predators.

Do the jelly fish that attack us underwater count as predators? I know they count as creature kills but not sure about predators.
Predators are identified by a red icon with a whit paw print. If you get too close they will chase you. Planets with extreme weather are often good places to find them. Frozen planets can be a good start and you can see the red icons easily.

The red paw print is for predators that are or will hunt you. Not all predators will hunt players if they are not provoked.

If you hit or shoot too close to a fauna, even gentle ones, they will go aggro sometimes. You will not get any credit for killing them as aggressive critters. Also, if you shoot their young the parent unit will sometimes attack.

A cat thinks one thing "meat". The NPC animals in NMS do it for sport; they're not predators. Yep I watched that crappy remake again :)

I wish there was rhyme or reason to this, but I don't think there actually is. My base is on a lush planet and I don't have any predators on it. This somehow excludes the dianoga-like exotic beast with "rips chunks of flesh" in it's actual description. I shoot the thing, the eyeballs disappear and I loot mordite and dirty meat... but no predator progress.

My entire home system of six planets lacks an actual predator.

Now, my settlement's planet is in a different system and has a predator. It's a rare horrifying mashup of two terrible movies: "Cats" and "The Fly". So, I naturally feel no remorse whatsoever massacring dozens of these. To make my "rare" predator pop, I find all I need to do is drop down enough creature pellets through the pet menu, (don't use E to hand feed individuals, that's too slow), to gather a herd of creatures together. Once I have a fairly sizable mob going, I find the predators come to me. Even if they weren't in scanner range when I started. Two or three pellets down... "Sweet Jesus, what's that?!?! Kill it, kill it with fire!"

Remember the predators mission is one of the easy "stacks". Use the teleporter to warp between stations and pick up about a dozen of these, then just do them all at once for mass rewards. Two or three kills can complete a good dozen or so missions. You can grind up reputation easily that way. The other stacking missions are feed animals and kill animals. You can even do them all at the same time... lay down some pellets, switch to your plasma launcher... "Doom! DOOOOOM! BWAHAHAHA..." Avoid scan animals, those require specific planets.
