maximum travel distance of a Star-Ship
Just wondering, what is the maximum travel distance in light years for a fully tweaked star-ship. I have a ‘Last laugh’ star-ship from Expedition 5 and it does 1000.1 LY per jump.

I have an explorer I'm currently building. I still have more work to do on it with swapping hyperdrive modules, but it's currently 2600+. I'm pretty sure I can get it over 3k.

The ship I got as the starter ship for a previous expedition (cartographer I think) has a warp range currently of 3528.1, two of the warp upgrades are +240 and +242, the other four I have are 246-250 each, so I may be able to extend that a bit further. The ship has specialist tech though, but not sure how much that boosts the max distance.

2600+ on guppy exotic. In fact you don't need even 1-2k. Where are you going to get to? There is all the same, and you'll be the same lonely one. No one needs you behind the stars. No one remember your name(if it is not a stupid-funny one or you are not Austintacious - a really good MT hunter man)

This is true, I rarely jump further than 1500, even when looking for
- a particular economy type,
- with 3 star econ,
- 1 star conflict
- and a particular dominant race (if I expect a freighter battle)

ETA also in a particular vague direction

I like to have 2k+ly travel for two reasons. When I'm doing an expedition, I trade/scrap A-class ships my way up to 8-10 million until I come across an exotic then dump S-class hyper drive modules in it. This 3-4 hour investment lets me really cover ground in the expedition. The other reason is, I always like to travel towards the outer edge of galaxies. Don't ask me why, perhaps my therapist could explain it, if I had one. Black holes don't help traveling away from the center, so a ship/freighter that has decent HD range is a must.

There are some ways to tweak warp distance with the save game editor, but vanilla...anything over 2500 lys is great. Technically, a decked out freighter can supposedly get 6000 lys, but my results varied greatly from that information. It fit in more with the 2500+ crowd.

I've never heard anyone say they do that. Do you eventually reach the "edge" where you can't go any further?

Ahh, the old modded stuffs. Not sure it's particularly helpful to this convo as the OP didn't ask how to cheat his ship... It is nice to see how cheating can be fun if you just cheat in all the mods to all the extra cheated in spaces that doesn't seem much like playing nms. My 2 cents.

Yes.
You can see some stars but you can't jump to them anymore.
It's quiet out there.

I've never gotten that far. : P On my current save I'm on the outer arm of Paholiang (#90) when you pull up the galaxy map and see the galaxy image in the upper left corner.

Perhaps it's an unconscious role play thing, to head in the opposite direction almost everyone else does. I like to imagine a scenario of some future traveler who is wired backwards like me reaching the way outer limits of a galaxy, who hasn't seen any evidence of anyone else being this far out and they come upon a base built by the long departed traveler known as Galadhlinn and saying to themselves, "whoa! I though I was the only one this crazy!". =)

Yeah, at the edge it's just an empty void going out.

You can have a look by going to the galactic map, doing a 180 from the centre then holding down whatever button goes zooooooom for about 5 minutes to the outer edge.

I haven't made the trip, because honestly systems/planets are the same in every area of every galaxy so moving large distances doesnt change much other than what the galactic map looks like. Every permutation of every planet, plant, animal etc can be found within ~2k LY of your current location.

Not quite correct. The edge is way more closer than the void. The edge is amidst the stars. It looks as you could jump to the next star you're seeing but you can't anymore. It's somewhat 400-500 ly before the void starts.

I absolutely love this endeavor and I wish you godspeed out there Traveler Galadhlinn. I think I am going to start following in your footsteps. Imagine how wild it'd be if we actually ran into each other out at the outer rim of Paho. .o7
