- a particular economy type,
- with 3 star econ,
- 1 star conflict
- and a particular dominant race (if I expect a freighter battle)
I've never heard anyone say they do that. Do you eventually reach the "edge" where you can't go any further?

Yes.
You can see some stars but you can't jump to them anymore.
It's quiet out there.
I've never gotten that far. : P On my current save I'm on the outer arm of Paholiang (#90) when you pull up the galaxy map and see the galaxy image in the upper left corner.
Perhaps it's an unconscious role play thing, to head in the opposite direction almost everyone else does. I like to imagine a scenario of some future traveler who is wired backwards like me reaching the way outer limits of a galaxy, who hasn't seen any evidence of anyone else being this far out and they come upon a base built by the long departed traveler known as Galadhlinn and saying to themselves, "whoa! I though I was the only one this crazy!". =)
Yeah, at the edge it's just an empty void going out.
You can have a look by going to the galactic map, doing a 180 from the centre then holding down whatever button goes zooooooom for about 5 minutes to the outer edge.
I haven't made the trip, because honestly systems/planets are the same in every area of every galaxy so moving large distances doesnt change much other than what the galactic map looks like. Every permutation of every planet, plant, animal etc can be found within ~2k LY of your current location.
Not quite correct. The edge is way more closer than the void. The edge is amidst the stars. It looks as you could jump to the next star you're seeing but you can't anymore. It's somewhat 400-500 ly before the void starts.
I absolutely love this endeavor and I wish you godspeed out there Traveler Galadhlinn. I think I am going to start following in your footsteps. Imagine how wild it'd be if we actually ran into each other out at the outer rim of Paho. .o7
