A little confusion clearing advice on changing freighters please.
I've done some reading and searching on this and I'm still a little confused/"in the dark" about what happens when I acquire a new freighter.

From what I can tell when you acquire a new freighter "your existing freighter base is automatically transferred and reconstructed". To me that means if I acquire a new freighter everything just comes over to the new one. However I keep reading that I need to deconstruct items like portals, empty storage etc before getting the new freighter and then rebuild storage and control rooms. I have assumed any upgrades will be lost.

Finding out for certain which is the most up to date is not always easy but I think it's the automatic transfer.

So to put my mind at ease if or when I decide to acquire that bigger and better freighter.

Does everything (portals, storage, constructors, inventory etc) get transferred automatically?
If not what steps do I need to take to make sure I don't lose any of my lovely stuff?

Thanks in advance.

Right now, the only thing you need to transfer before changing freighters is the current freighter inventory, which you can do while comparing the two freighters. You can also uninstall any technologies, get the components and transfer them before the exchange. Everything else (any items in your base or storage) are transferred without any action on your side.

The game is always changing so guides are often outdated.
Nowadays, your freighter base is transfered to the new one, but that wasn't the case until recently.

I thought you had to access the terminal on the bridge and trigger the base move by selecting base reset. I have a save for testing, maybe will try to do a swap later and report back.

Yeah, last time I switched (a couple weeks ago), all I needed to do was move the inventory. All rooms, my teleporter, my refiner/nutrient processor, everything else was transferred.

Just tried it. You are correct, everything in the base part just automatically comes over.

The reset does a reset base is the equivalent of deleting a planetary base. Only items missing were ships and I assume they would spawn when you move the freighter or exit and log back in.

Thanks everyone. Especially as I was thinking all about storage rooms and the like and might have forgotten about the inventory.

I went for a larger freighter once I finally found a better one. It let me transfer all the cargo in the freighter over ... didn't see how you could see the Technology slots tho guess you have to cancel the convo and do that through normal inventory before hand.
Noticed that other ships weren't in the bay unless you exit and come back.
Also seems that anything in utilities like Refiners and the Nutrient Processor are all lost...goodbye to all my Di hydrogen Gel and 1400 odd nanites that I was processing from Runaway mould :(

Tbh it's probably just worth hunting down a free S class for your first freighter.. you'll never need to swap it then and it will save you a lot of money in the long run.

It's really not that hard to do either.
